I won't use text messaging!
this morning,i received a text message from my husband, he said if i could make a proposal for college education for two kids for SIR DONG. ( I am a licensed financial adviser for a Life insurance company here, Philam) Anyways, i replied a short message as i was busy with work.. i replied " Sir dong who?" - That message means ( if he is fast on getting that message) who is he, name, full name for one... and all other details! And he didn't reply.
Then lunch time came, i slept for awhile as i am still feeling sick.. then woke up and called my husband and when he answered he was MAD. He right then told me, is that how i deal with clients, is that how i ask information? is that how i am when working? i was like what the hell are you talking about? it was you i was texting and not a client! he then told me what was with my text message!
Probably, i was speechless by his reaction thats why i was not able to fully explain my side, i end up saying sorry and that was not how that message intends to be! I so wish i could have told him was "pick up" is slow. But well i prefer to keep my mouth shut right now and just move on. I am tired.
I therefore conclude that:
a. when texting - still use complete sentence!
b. never assume the person you are texting will fully comprehend what you have written
c. there are some who are slow
d. it is not the best communication method.
ugh!

Haha, that's the reason why I need to txt my hubby in full sentence, even if the words are shortened or wrong spelling, 'cause hubby sometimes misunderstood what I've txtd him.
You know what my friend, your hubby is lucky to have you, lol! I mean if that happened to me, I really wont say sorry, honestly! Well,I guess I'm like that or I'm just used to hubby saying sorry to me instead of me, saying sorry to him. I don't know, but you see, I have this habit of showing him that I am mad too when I feel that he's mad, just to melt his anger. Hubby is like when he feels I'm mad, he will calm down so the "fight' wont go far. So you see, your hubby is lucky to have you as his wife!

I been to that kind of situation, we got mis-understanding with my friend before and until now we not able to patch up what had happened before, the cause is mis-communication with the txt message that are not using the full word, i don't understand why they short cut the full word? i my self i see to it that when i txt, i use the full word because i'm having difficulty in interpreting the short cut words.

I sometimes have a hard time understanding text messages as well. That's why I make sure to read my message twice before sending it. Plus, I make sure that if I have to shorten words, that they are understandable in concept with the sentence.

No you are just doing good it just happened your husband is from other planet family of individual self proclaim people. Text is for emergency message the receiving party must be intelligent enough to interpret the message.

I do not text at all, there are too many ways to mess up or be misunderstood. Of course it could just be that I am behind the times.

That's the problem of text messaging. I always received messages that I fully understand due to some words that is not fully explain. Most of the time I write a text in a full context that even a child can understand to avoid misunderstanding and no confusion.

Hello Jazel_juan, That's sad must have been a bad impression there with a client, i think it's better to text it with complete words when ever you are having a text conversation with a client. you could do shortcuts with a couple of people but not with the person who wants to have clear sentence of answer coming from you. besides, if it gives a bad impression, they may tell others and that will not be good.

Yeah, text messaging sometimes do creates misunderstanding especially if the recipient of the text is slow in comprehending what we have sent them. Most of the time we used short messages or we even invent words we hope the receiver understands, so that the words could fit for one message only, a sort of cost saving. I experienced it too when I sms my wife about something but she had not perceive what my text meant. What happened? she didn't text me for two days even if I have text her many times. To cut short, I called her to explain my side about the text, now it's back to normal.

Lol, I am sorry but I find this story funny. But please don;t tell your husband I said that! I also have the same issue with my husband when we text message each other. That is why if a call cannot be made to straight things out, I type everything, complete with proper punctuation marks and to heck with sore fingers, lol!

hi jazel__juan that reminds me of a discussion response I read where the person just said KWIM. I had to ask her just what KWIM
meant as I do not have a cell phone and do not know text expressions. I found out that it means "know what I mean?"Okay I got that but I too would not know what your husband meant by Sir Dong and would need that explained to me in words I understood too.
I do think we go too far with these expressions and why not just
use good old American English instead.
