Two kinds of people on facebook.

The social media had become a powerful force, no denying that. Concurrent studies had shown though, that with facebook, there seem to exist two kinds of netizens, the exhibitor and the voyeur. Obviously, the exhibitor is the bragger who posts practically every social event, picture, photo, feeling he/she conducts in his/her life,. including travel. The voyeur is the one who post minimally, if at all, but knows practically everything about the others. Would you categorize yourself to a particular group?

I am a proud voyeur. I don't see the need to post every single thing that happens to me in my day there. However, I do know of the missing third type of person in Facebook that you forgot about..this is funny The Love Obsessed This is the person who has to post every few seconds about how in love they are, how much they miss the person they are with, how happy they are..they even go as far as posting all these pointless pictures of them and the other person..everything seems syrupy sweet and gross UNTIL.. that person doesn't respond to a text or call fast enough, says or does something this person doesn't like..then, they want to post all those 'I Am Better Without" you picture posts and might even go as far as picking a fight with the person on their wall. All to be ignored or dumped..then, it's on to the next person to fall hopelessly in love with..in the cases that I witness everyday, it's always a girl and the guy always really belongs to someone else..

I think I have one in my friends's list, and ahhh, he's my nephew. I almost deleted him.

there is a girl on my friend's list right now who last weekend took a cap and placed it on her shoulder and took a picture of it saying it was 'her and her baby' now from the angle the picture was taken, it appears his face is like nuzzling her neck I guess..it would've been cute if the guy she was "taking the picture with" wasn't out with us at the time..its so sad..

Oppss... I don't know which group I belong lol. I log in my facebook everyday, just to see if my brother and my best friend is online so I can chat with and know the whereabouts of my mother and brothers, who happens to doesn't have access to internet. Sometimes, I will tick likes of some of my friends posts and that's it. Other than that, I feel that I am just wasting my time if I will stay longer than usual.

That's all right, bhelle, my primary objective for logging on fb is also to communicate with my family. After accepting more friends and liking more pages though, I now have a lot of activities that I hope, somehow, can help the people I love, one way or another. Facebook helps me send messages I want my loved ones to receive, and feel, especially so because they are so far away.

I blog a lot on fb, but my friends are stingy with LIKES and COMMENTS. It is only when we meet up that they say they read me. Do you support you friends, anyway, by liking or commenting?
• Philippines
11 Mar 13
I don't know exactly why most people follow these trends but some how i think that it's not necessary since your only goal in facebook is to be connected with friends, classmates and family.

LetranKnight: I think it was just a most common trait of facebook user to be a voyeur or exhibitionist. Eileen: Yes,in fact i also have a group of friends who supports each other by liking each once pages and sometimes sharing also....

I think I belong to the voyeur, not really a fun of posting all my activities, messages and photos.

Hello eileen, I don´t consider myself either one of those types I am just a logger in type that can sometimes add a few likes here and there between precious friends from before and maybe one or two others from now and that´s it. I don´t have much time to travel anywhere on the internet but I am pleased I have gleaned a bit of information from here as well so I never feel bad about being on here or on Facebook. I think that there are many types of Facebook users but I do not fit into the first two at all. Fitting in being on here between other things is something I have to want to do otherwise I just do not post and there are times when this computer is used for work of the offline kind so I do not get a look in at all.xxx

I love your positive outlook in life. lovingangel, as you have your fb family, we also are a mylot family, aren't we? You are most real here, when I read you, and I can relate to the ideas and the stories you narrate. Carry on, lovingangel, you mean to so many people, more than you know.

Hello eileen, Well they share a lot with me sometimes so I share back just a few times not many though mainly stays on my wall what I write. A few of the things are worth liking and many others not. I respect the way they are but they are not abusive either and I do not accept applications like games and such. I don´t have Family to share with eileen you see so this is a sort of social thing where if anyone needs to know where I am well I am there and that´s it.xxx

But Professor, if I recall right, the Blue Moon came just once these past years. Log in on fb, you might have many invites wondering why you have not added them up.

I am not visiting my account for posting my status updates, my photos and everything happen to me everyday. Unlike when I was working abroad I spent more time on facebook to communicate and monitor my family. Now, I only post about my other online program that need more views.

I would like to categorize myself in voyeur group but I'm not updated about others' activities. I only post the photo or status I want to post. I'm not that active in Facebook. I only use its chat to send and receive IMs.

That's good a self-discipline. Facebook is a good means of communicating but neither do I want to know all the minute details of other people, even if I call them friends.

uhm I can say I'm a little bit of the two.I said so because I can strongly admit that I upload and update anything that is happening to me on my facebook account minus the parts that need not to be posted like my super personal stuffs such as pin numbers, passwords etc.

That's okay, I have many friends on fb that do that all the time. I think it's the normal for the young people. They even include the Hahaha and the Huhuhu, the Ahh! and the Ohhh! And they change profile pix by the day.

Wow, thinking about it in this way, I don't think that we would want to think that we fall into either of the two groups of netizens that you've mentioned. However, I do think that if we were to think about it that we would all be able to say that there is one or the other of the two groups in which we would best fit. For me, I would have to say that the group that I better fall into is the group of the voyeur. I don't post all the time, but I do frequently tend to read the posts that other people have made.

Hi, Yes, you are almost correct. If we divide the categories into two basic groups, the tendency comes in such a way. For me, I want my page so professional and looking neat and appealing. As you said, it is our stigma that we need to pop up with new things and update daily alongwith our daily life events. Some people are more particular to upload many photos especially their life styles and more. Some are quite happy on linking to others and particular to go through the interlink connections too. However, depend on the nature of the person, they move around with their page and we can almost estimate a person's nature also by viewing their site and my evaluation is more ore less true with their real nature.

Yes, it is really help for the people living far away or distant locations and for them it is nice choice for updates and sharing, espcially when it comes to close friends, family members. I never been so fond of fb, and a maximum of 5-10 mts. is good enough for me to move around on it. I am thinking of a new site of mine, connected to my original page and the new site will hold my favourites and hobbies, photos, shoots, etc. as I am so fond of photography and video shooting. Some friends always ask me to upload new photos (not mine) but my collection. So, instead of keeping on my main page, I will keep a subordinate account where I can play around with my likings and I was just thinking about the same a few days back.

Not belong to any of these groups since I am not an active member of facebook. I can't remember the last time I was there. So, I must have missed many things about my friends there. But i know that many of the members are exhibitor. Otherwise facebook won't be the popular social site~(^^)

That calls for a study, fb members mostly being exhibitors. In my case, I love facebook because I can communicate faster to my family and friends, about how I am, or what fb calls "status update." I do believe it is important for our loved ones to know how we are doing, so they would not worry anymore. I write both the good things and the miserable ones, the latter is for everyone to know that bad things happen and we have to tackle them. I let them know that there are times to smile, or laugh, and there are times to frown, or grieve, or feel sorry.

I don't use fb frequently. But every time I sign in, I love to know new photos or new information about my friends. I love that all truth of their life. Because we can't meet to each other, so, fb is a good way.

That's good. It's really nice to update oneself with the lives of friends, it's like we are adding moments in our lives, too. We are happy when our friends are happy, sad when they are sad. We feel, just knowing how they are.

Hello eileenlyva, this sure wasn't like it back in the days of friendster, in friends the gig back then was having a cool profile background and lots and lots of darn comments on your profile or so many views in the profile. facebook i guess, a different kind of social media site that arouses the one you mentioned here in your discussion. I would like to classify myself as a little bit voyeur, but never the exhibitionist, never guts to post most of my pictures online

I know that. In the Pinoy mylot conference you were prodded to attend a couple of years back, you hid your face in sunglasses. ha ha. Sayang, am sure you look quite dashing, unless you are cross-eyed. No offense to people who have such conditions, please, am just joking.

Maybe there are also normal people on Facebook ? If there are only exhibitors and voyeurs, then I am a member of the voyeurs nursing staff : I use FB only to do online tasks with fake accounts and email addresses that I never check, and I take care of voyeurs by offering them spam to give spice to their life by accumulating useless data on ghost users.

Wouldn't that be a waste of your time, too? Sometimes, when I am on the internet, I do feel guilty because there are a thousand and one tasks to do for the day, many family and friends to call up and ask how they are, and many of these beloved people need help. From mylot alone, I delete no less than a hundred and fifty mails which, of course, take much time to a none tekie such as me. How I wish I could have produced more substantial blogs for all those precious moments. Anyway, I know anyway that those spams can spice up life, but sometimes I think life is already salty, or sour, or bitter, and some people can do with a lot of cheering up from friends on the net.

I see, quite interesting, actually, what you do. Am just not comfortable with anything fake because those things tend to be troublesome. I hope though that you get the satisfaction necessary in a day's work, I mean, that you don't get bored. Also hope those cents multiply exponentially, so you wouldn't be burdened further with the task of hunting the French. Blessings to you. topffer!

I am French. I would not recommend to do any FB task with a real account, and, BTW, I canceled my personal FB account 3 years ago. I never had a problem with FB with these fake accounts : I believe they don't care until you are reported as a spammer.

I can slightly be categorized as the exhibitor. I enjoys posting photos, updating status, commenting on friends post but purpose is not to brag. I don;t post photos of my new branded shoes, watches, bags, etc... some are doing such

I'm more of a voyeur. I usually share funny pictures and join giveaways, with rarely putting up photos and bragging about where I'm eating out or where I'm going for a vacation. I do status updates rarely, too.

You are kind, you know fun pictures could uplift your friends' spirit, in case they are feeling down for the day. Bless you, doroffee. Ouch, I post pictures about eating out with family, or reunion with friends, and I admit, so that others will be envious of my taking time to laugh and eat with people I care about. But that comes with the hope that others would do the same, so they'd be happy, too.
