Is it Unsanitary not to Shower Everyday?

Philippines

I shower everyday or twice a day and now that I am pregnant I shower 3 to 4 times a whether I've been out or not. However, I have a friend doesn't think it is necessary. He is fine showering every other day which I find a little gross. Even if he haven't sweat, his body still producing natural oils and such which need cleaning. How do I find a nice way of telling him that she should shower more often? Am I just a clean freak or this is something you all have come across as well? It's not great to smelled someone who hasn't showered for a day.

I read an advice column once about this subject. A man noticed after he retired that his wife did not shower every day, but every other day. And the advice columnist said for some people it is not a good idea for them to shower every day because they might have sensitive or dry skin and bathing every day could do more harm than good. The columnist said as long as the person "takes care of business", perhaps using a washcloth a certain place, there was no reason why it should be a big deal. Of course I would say if a person is not wearing deodorant and they smell, they might want to rethink showering every other day.

Girl, I have been to a couple places (outside of the U.S.) where no one seemed to believe in it.

You are showering way too much. The natural oils are necessary for healthy skin. You sound a little like you have OCD. a shower every day is fine. Older people who lose their oils should maybe shower every other day and just wash their face and their essentials. If your water is free, and you don't have dry skin, I don't think it's harmful. Well, maybe it could be harmful in the sense that you don't give your immune system anything to fight and you could get sick more often. My niece is OCD like that. She doesn't allow her daughter to get dirty at all. She gets every sickness going around because her immune system is so weak due to cleaning her body too much. The skin naturally has certain germs and fungi on it. You go messing with the healthy balance you may end up with a yeast infection or some internal sickness. Just be smart about it. Bathing daily is sufficient. Bathing twice daily isn't always necessary, but it isn't harmful the way bathing 4 times a day could be. I would be concerned about your immune system. You are talking about bathing about every 4 hours while awake. Don't you think that's a little much?

We have the habit to have a shower everyday. Since you come from a tropical country, it is hotter there, and it is reasonable that you have a shower frequently. It is not comfortable to be sweaty. Some people may get used to their odor. If you are his true friend, you shall tell him and I don't think he will mind it so much.

I think that it depends on the person. When we get older, the production of those natural body oils slows down. A daily bath or shower for a senior citizen would dry out their skin too much. Some people just naturally produce more oil on their skin regardless of their age.

From the time that I was a young child, my parents always told us that we should shower every other day so that we don't dry out our skin. This is what I do now that I'm adult, although there are some exceptions. That said, I don't think that there is anything that is unsanitary at all about not taking a shower every single day. I think that it is fine to shower every other day. I think that people that shower multiple times a day are excessive.

I think not showering everyday is acceptable too especially when you live in a cold place.

I saw a program once about people who were challenged not to wash their hair for a month. Surprisingly it only got to a certain state of greasiness and then it was fine. Of course no one said if it smelled good or not. Maybe the same can be applied to our skin, a little oil keeps it in a good condition. I have to cream my legs every time I shower because Greece is so dry that my legs look awful if I don't.

To shower as much as you do makes you a clean freak but it is good you shower everyday. I shower sometimes every other day and sometimes everyday depending on the weather or if i go out or not and such. Tho i think if you go 2 or more days without a shower that is disgusting. Sometimes tho in the summer heat i have showered 2 time a day and everyday. In the winter cold months i shower every other day because i feel i get less dirty. You may be a clean freak but it's better than being dirty and going 2 or more days without a shower which i think is gross.

I take at least one shower a day and many time two or three. Living in Puerto Rico it can be very hot at times and I will just jump in the shower to cool off. I take a shower in the morning. If I have yard work to do I take another one once I come in and then again another one before bed if I feel sticky or very hot just to cool down. The only time I may not shower is if I'm sick with a fever. In fact I also wash my hair everyday because its baby fine hair and I can't go a day without washing it.

I would just tell him that its not healthy not to take at least one shower a day. That he needs to open up his pores and cleanse his skin.

I stick to the believe that we should at least shower once a day. That is if we are not going anywhere and stay indoor. This is because of concern on hygienic issue. Just imagine how much bacteria and all those dust that got on you everyday. At the same time, our body also releases certain waste such as sweat which would definitely make you smell bad and not hygienic at the same time. I myself take bath twice daily, maybe three if I do go out because I sweat greatly.

Hi, Daily cleaning of body is very necessary for everyone. I only take shower only once in a day. But in summer I take bath twice. In the morning and in the evening. Showering is important for our good health.

Yeah,me too. I am not that comfortable if I do not take a bath during morning and take a shower at night. It is one of our personal hygiene and it should always be done everyday most especially that summer is here already.

Taking a bath everyday is very important to our every day's life. It's good to feel fresh and clean all the time..In the case of your friend I think no need for you tell or remind her about taking a bath everyday, because I assumed she is matured enough to know it and I assumed that she already know the benefit of taking a bath.. It maybe because she has different beliefs when it comes to that, so you better respect it instead.

I don't think skipping a day every now and then is that bad when it comes to showering. But only when somneone doesn't do anything, and they don't have to go anywhere... because still, it can get dirty and a bit sweaty and stuff... not to talk about the private parts. Well, if he stinks, you could tell him to shower more... otherwise, if he just seems and smells fine, maybe he's just lucky.

i took a shower everyday for one hour almost. but rarely i took shower twice in a day unless it is really necessary. because taking a bath after doing hard works under the sun would harm you. it may paralyze you. and my mother would not permit us to take a bath when we are so tired even if it is a hot shower or whatsoever.

I think you are over doing it and suggest you take a careful look at the skin on your legs to see if it is getting too dry. You are washing off the natural oil too soon. If you are suffering from a hot climate I can imagine that two showers might be necessary but not 4! Your boyfriend might not need to shower all over every day but perhaps you should tell him tactfully that some parts need washing at least twice! If you smile at him when you say it he might accept it more easily. Bodies do have a natural smell which is not unpleasant, it is the smell of accumulated dried BO that is the problem.

Personally, I prefer taking a shower or a bath daily. I take showers twice a day, once in the morning before I even go out of the house or do my chores. And then one more time before bedtime. This is regardless of how hot or cold the weather is. It is just a personal preference.
