Some people don't understand the real value of volunteerism, if they do act; they ask for an exchange. So where is the principle of volunteerism?

Just because some people expect something in return it does not mean volunteer service does not exist. I have volunteered so many times, expecting nothing in return.

Volunteering is a way to give back without expecting anything in return. Its an investment into somebody's life, its not just time, its feeling, its connecting, its giving beyond what you think its worth. I volunteer when I can, it helps out those who need it, even if they don't ask. Its also a great way to build character in your kids, it teaches them that giving of themselves is far better than anything they will ever get.

I guess they just don't understand what that means. Many people say "I do it for God but they expect payment. If it were for God, they would do it voluntarily.

Hi, Right, asking for compensation is no longer volunteerism. One should offer time, talent and treasure for a cause when asked to volunteer which is not always the case given the limited resources a person can have. One reason volunteers come far and in between. However, some full time employees, person with paid work, started as volunteers in a company or firm where they work, a good thing to start with under the circumstances.

it is not volunteerism at all. I have a story regarding this. Part of our points system is to do some social action... active participation in the community. of course we need some points to increase our performance rating and our pay. i often volunteer for it for the reason of free trip all over the Philippines, but I really do my share. I am prepared to what will I see in the place. Anyway, I have two co teachers volunteering with me, we already made as a team. WE have different subject matters, usually I handle special education awareness, or technology in the classroom or Rubrics Assessment Tool (we share our skills to teachers from public schools and in the province for free for two weeks). Some teachers, deal with math, science, social studies. These two teachers are "friends forever" friends. Every time we set our foot on the place, they will choose the best room for themselves.. or complain a lot. I will just smile, sometimes it benefits me, because they want me to be with them.

Nothing is free in this world, that is the sad truth. We all work in equivalent exchange, it might not show at first but people use people and thats how it has been and how it will be for a while.

I am sure you are a nurse by profession, anticipating you´d started being a volunteer. Unless, you practiced your profession. I do agree that not all individuals know the importance of volunteerism.

I've never volunteered. But then even in nurse volunteers they do volunteerism for something in return which is experience. It all started in the past when nurses wanted experience but they didnt want to be tied up with the hospital thus they can leave earlier and go abroad, they all brought this all to themselves.

Volunteerism should be the act of solely giving and not expecting anything in return, usually you are volunteering your time to help others, rather than to help yourself, of course it does a lot of good if you volunteer, in that you can add that to your resume.

I don't know how to answer this to be honest. We have volunteers in our community through the local churches. We get a lot of volunteers at our senior center too when they have bake sales and fund raisers. I don't recall any person asking for an exchange. They might do it because they want to be seen in the community as giving their time but as far as an exchange I think that would be unheard of. I do what I can when it's within my schedule. Sometimes think spread myself too thin but don't think there is really enough time available when it comes to volunteer work.

Volunteerism comes with a full heart to serve. That's the true value. To serve, help and care for someone without asking any returns. In this way, we can share our love to our Lord as well.

I feel like the main principle of volunteering is a giving of your time and talent to other people or beings that are able to benefit from you the talents that you have. You are doing this because it is something that you genuinely enjoy doing, not because you expect that you are going to be getting something in return for your time. I personally love to volunteer at my children's school and I also enjoyed volunteering at the hospital as a teenager. The reason, because I loved being able to help other people in whatever way that I can.

Yes, it's suppose to be helping people most especially to the less privileged. Sharing one's talent and capabilities in improving human quality of life. It's also a way of sharing our blessings to others with out anything in return.

I am not sure why would they even use the term when they really do not do what it really means.

I do believe that people who volunteer do it for truly helping others. But I also believe that some people volunteer to hopefully get something in return, wether it be a favor or help from someone else.

That is because they do not know to give is better than to receive. When you give without thinking of any reward, you will be blessed more. That is how you build your way to prosperity.

I am a volunteer. That means that I do the same job as other people but don't get paid for doing it. I originally did it to gain work experience but I very much enjoy it (and couldn't get a paid job!) and I still do it 10 years later. I get enjoyment from the job but I don't expect anything else from it. That is what volunteering is, as well as offering your skills/services out of good will in order to help someone else without the expectation of reimbursement.

To me volunteerism is something that you do mostly with your heart and not with your pocket.

I think of it as expecting no pay for doing something for others because there is a need.

Hello, I volunteer at an Art Center. I also have been a volunteer tutor for 10 years and teach adult literacy. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve others in some small way.

Volunteerism is when you volunteer for a cause and do it because you want to help out not because you might get something out of it.
