Does money buy happiness?

I say to some degree it does buy happiness. I know I was happier when making $35,000 as opposed to minimum wage. When I made $35,000, I was able to go spend money on activities I enjoyed as opposed to struggling to pay the bills. Not to mention, when I was part of the middle class, I enjoyed access to healthcare and dental care that I don't have now.
I think being poor can make a person unhappy because you constantly have to worry about making ends meet.

Money does help, but does not buy happiness. In my country we have access to some amount of health care no matter how poor we are. When you belonged to the middle class, I bet you did not think of the poor of the world. Yet, what really is part of happiness is to have someone with whom to share whaever you have, If you are alone, there`s no happiness, no matter how much money you have. Happiness is in part about money, but there are a lot of other things as important as that.

Not everyone needs another person to be happy. I was perfectly happy when single and alone - almost happier than I am now, with an aging, elderly, disabled husband and two young adult children. While I wouldn't trade any of them or change any of it, I am no where near as happy as I was in my younger, single days.

I agree that money can make living easier but not if you are spending more time away from family. I know my husband got a better paying job and is around for the family now more then when he was making very little money. I do miss not having to worry about health care though.

I'd say money has something to do with happiness or sadness. Life is easier financially when we have enough money to spend. We feel happy and relax when we don't have to worry about bills and as long as having enough money doesn't go over our head and let it ruin our relationship with our loved ones. Life is hard when we always have to struggle in order to survive and even if no matter how hard we work, what we earn is still not enough. It's sad when we want to give our love ones something but we can't afford. And it's so frustrating when you can finally afford but then you start to fight with each other because they can't seem to be satisfied, when everything starts to evolve around money.

Not necessarily happiness, but good quality of life. And you have more access to comfortable things its easier to enjoy yourself and cheer yourself up

I'd say that money can buy you temporary happiness but whatever you have bought that made you happy won't be for a lifetime of such a feeling. You will be happy for a time, but you will still feel the need to have more things even. So you will never be satisfied, afterall.

Money provides a cushion that makes us more comfortable but it certainly doesn't make us happy and if it does then I suspect that there is something lacking in a person s life. You say one thing that strikes a chord though. You say that you cannot access health and dental care. Whenever I have said that might be the case Americans tell me that everybody can be treated. Clearly not.

Definitely cannot!
People think when they have millions of dollars they become happy but after having millions of dollars they will face millions of problems. It means, you won't be happy because you have millions of money in the bank

I know very early in my working life that being poor will make people unhappy. So I have always done my best and more in my job to catch the eyes of my bosses so that I may have a chance to be promoted and my salary raised. After nearly three decades of being a participant in the rat race, I feel that I am not doing too badly and I live quite comfortably. But I still worry about not having enough in savings when in times of need. I am not unhappy and yet, I am not too happy either :(

Hi,
you are right. To some degree money can buy happiness. Money has important place in our life. without money we can not survive. We have many things in our home by which we can enjoy like TV, mobile, DVD player etc. which give us happiness. Money can fulfill our basic needs. The poor people who are lack of money have to go through very hard conditions, their life is miserable. But everything can not be purchased by money. We can see many rich people who are not happy in their life even if they are having lots of money. Many poor people are happy with whatever they have. So happiness depends upon ourselves.

There was a study about the relationship between money and happiness. And as much as we will like to fool ourselves if find a direct connection between the person happiness level and the amount of money he has...
I also discover that beautiful people also tend to be happier than less attractive people, however that might be due to the 3rd thing is discover: beautiful / attractive people tend to be more successful.

That I agree. Money can buy us happiness which are of course temporary or what I consider worldly happiness sort of thing. When you have the money, you can buy almost everything at the store but happiness does not only to be superficial...there are real happiness that money cannot buy.

If I want a day time happiness, I think money can do that. I can use money to buy a day's free day and wonderful things to make me happy.
If the happiness should last long, long to a whole life, I do not think money can make that, for people do not have so much power to hide their problems.

As a poor person I can say yes I buy my happiness by means of having much money and buy what I want in life. But, the truth is all material things are temporary happiness to human. True happiness can't buy in any store or malls. What I mean is inner happiness that came from our Lord Jesus Christ. Once we know it we can identify now the real happiness and only we can buy are those materials that make us happy temporarily. Ok Let's be happy.! :)

Money is really important in the life, it can make happiness, it can make our wishes come true. of course that having a better life, is equal to having more happiness. but there are still people who are rich but not happy as they do not know the way of using their money. so the way of using money is really important for happiness and making better life. and there are some poor people that are happy with nothing. happiness for some people is something valuable within them that does not need money. money is just a way, one of many ways for happiness.
