I recently visited a mall restroom right from work and needed to really freshen up before I actually moved around the mall. So I washed my face and proceeded to brush my hair. They had this wierd sink and I noticed I had splashed a lot of water around the sink and being a considerate person, I actually took some tissue and wiped around the sink. Then I saw my hair all over the counter and put my brush down and picked up the hair and wiped up there too. Anyway I was alone and also I thought it was the right thing to do. Then this attendant walks in and I smiled at her but she just looked at me and then at the floor and there were a few drops of water there, she began to mop it up. Then she actually pointed to some strands of hair on the counter and signalled me to discard them - without even a smile or politeness like I had a responsibility? Is that audacity or what? I noticed she was speech and hearing impaired. I was being considerate on two levels - one that she is stuck doing a menial job and two, that she is hearing impaired and there she was showing me plain old arrogance. I was taken aback and didnt say anything, but how do you react to that?

hi,
you are a nice person as you cleaned everything as a responsible person. We feel very awkward when someone doesn't give response after smiling with them. but as you said the attended was hearing and speech impaired. She would be of serious nature and would not give smile to strangers. She may have some bad experiences with strangrs.

You have to behave in kind way when dealing with handicapped people because its not their will they were born that way.It doesn't matter what they do to you but just be calm and understand them. You did a great job over there by taking some responsibility despite being watched by nobody.

Yes, that is a noble thought, guess they live with a lot of stuff and a little extra kindness and understanding would help. For normal people, I would surely go with walk away, but here I guess I could let it fly and be extra nice still.
Thanks for the appreciation, its nice to hear!
