A lot of my free time is going to be spent taking people to medical appointments

I will be off work at midnight, and by six a.m. I will be picking up my sister to take her to another city for another heart cath procedure. The procedure itself may not take very long. It depends on if the blockage has been softened by the meds. When it is over they want 8 or 9 hours of recovery. I will take my laptop and try to be online some of the time. Meanwhile we could use prayers.

I am home, trying to catch up on my online stuff. This day went well. She was one of the earliest patients and so her recovery time was over and we got to come home before it got dark. This was the second attempt to clear the blockage and it was successful, otherwise she would have had to have a bypass surgery.

You do what you have to do to take care of people. I am sure glad I chose not to smoke, and this is a great example to the youngsters not to smoke. It is interesting to see the procedure and to be able to tell within hours how well it worked because the color is good on her foot. Thank you for the prayers. You know, this is a really caring community.

I took it very easy today. Hubby came and made sure I went for lunch. It is a town a half hour from where we live, and sometimes when I am tired I fail to do the basics for myself that I should. He also did the shopping that needed done. I have a friend from my online sites that lives in that city and she came by as well. My nieces were there for their mom, too. I just took her because I was not sure the one would be off of work and the other is from another state and would not have found her way as well. Thank you for your prayers, the surgery was very successful.

Hello GG,
Trust that everything will go well which it will. They have everything controlled now not like before.
A neighbour has had a very serious operation and he is doing very well now. But his was all controlled by brilliant doctors and it came out perfect.
It helps to take things with you to work on a laptop will be enough and maybe a book or two. Do you have to wait inside the hospital itself or can you go somewhere else to keep changing scenes a bit to bring down the anxiety level?

I had other family members there, and a crochet project to work on. My husband drove the half hour or so to make sure I went and got lunch with him. I have a friend from this site who lives in that town and we visited, so time went well. So did the surgery. It was good to be able to see the improved color once her circulation was restored.

Hello GG,
That is good news. It is anxiety creating being in a Hospital the atmosphere is hardly relaxing most times even for the most simple things. One of my smallest used to run every time he saw somebody wearing a white overall.
Anyway so good that it has all come out right for her and a lot of relief for everyone else surrounding her too.xxx

Prayers sent. Hope all goes well and you get all the appointments done. I know what that is like. It seems like that is all I get done doing with my son. I also have been having to go, due to getting swimmers ear, I will be so glad to be able to hear correctly again.

Some of hubby's stuff is not for a month yet. I am glad that my sister has gotten this far and that the doctor was able to break through the blockage.

What type of meds do they have her on now? Of course I'll be sending prayers, but you've got to get some sleep in the meantime.

Great news! Glad to hear her blood pressure has gone down enough for them to give her a lower dose of meds. My boyfriend started on blood pressure medication last fall, but his blood pressure has dropped significantly in the last few months. They finally took him off his meds. It could be that he's dropped some weight from not eating out as much-I've been doing a lot more cooking for him and he's not as tempted to stuff the garbage he used to eat all the time!

We were there from 7 am to 5 pm. I wish they could convince her to quit smoking. The cardiologist says that this type of blockage almost always is the result of smoking. The foot that was brown and black and splotchy is now nice and rosy.

OH my goodness...speedy prayers are winging your way, GG! That is ONE big day, and a stressful one, too! Plus what I hear in the news, the weather is really not in your favour either. I also hope that they have in the room, one of those recliner chairs, so that possibly, when the proceedure is over...you can catch a nap..as you also have the long drive home, on very little sleep! My prayers for a sucessful, safe trip...and good results!

Our weather was decent. I get a little disoriented in the dark so it took me a few minutes to find my entrance. I had a lot of different opportunities to rest but not sleep. A good friend that I have met online lives in that community and came and visited after my nieces and their kids left. They were there for the surgery and when the doctor talked with us about how the procedure went. It went wonderfully, by the way. Successful. Would be great if she would quit smoking but she will not.

Thank you, GG...I am so pleased that you took the time to fill me in on how you day went...and I am happy "all is well, that end's well!"
A little mysterious, but I fell asleep last nite, thinking about you, and your long, long day...and driving challenges. One that I would deem a stressful day, with the operation, too!
I, too, face a bit of disorientation in the dark...and seem to do more so, as I get longer in the tooth! It seems, just yestereday, that I could travel at night on my E-bike....but now I do it with great trepidation.
Thank you, for the update...and have a great day, hopefully with some rest!

I sure hope your life is not like this. It is the pits. I worked a double today and foresee one and one half shifts tomorrow.

You sound like my mom. She is gone now but she used to take the old folks in the neighborhood to their appointments and get groceries. We lived in the same neighborhood as my grandparents and I had grown up there. She also did the irrigation for the entire street nearly. Sounds like your sister has a short procedure and long recovery.

I had forgotten, they blocked out a total of two hours for the procedure, and then she had quite a bit of recovery. I was on the go for about twelve and a half hours counting getting her home to her apartment. I think care taking is a habit for me as it is also my job. They hold them after this procedure to make sure there is no bleeding since they went into an artery and opened it up.

Care taking or care giving? I think you are both. That's a good idea to keep them for observation after going into an artery.

I'm sure your sister appreciates the fact that you are making yourself available to help her. It is a good thing that you do.
You are also smart to take something to occupy your time while you have to wait. I never go anywhere without a book or something to occupy my time.

My kids learned early on to always have something that they wanted to do in their pockets or bags. They read a lot.

Prayers do indeed help and the surgery had a very good outcome. It is amazing to see the difference in the color in her foot within a couple of hours of the procedure being done.

I am very fortunate in that our family, no matter what, is supportive of one another. The procedure went very well. It would be even better for her if she would quit smoking but she says she will not.

I have a big crochet project I am working on and it goes everywhere with me. My nieces and their teenaged kids were there during the actual procedure time and to hear the doctor's report and visit with her in recovery. My husband drove over after he finished his Meals on Wheels commitment in our town to make sure I went for lunch. I have a friend from this website that lives in that town and she came and visited as well. I feel very gratified that the improvement in her circulation was visible and happened pretty quickly after they unblocked her artery.

I know I am a few days late but hope that everything went well and your sister is at home recovering now. Having anything done to do with the heart is a very scary thing. I hope to never have to go through it, but I've had family who have had to go through heart problems.

You know we could see her circulation improving immediately while she was in the recovery room.
