There are many alternatives that can keep us fit, and most of them are free! I am not a fan of the gym but I enjoy doing fitness classes. Unfortunately they are personalized and too expensive in my city so I decided to work out in different ways! First of all, I am working out at home, using dvd's or online videos and I have to say thay it is very effective! Running and cycling are also great solutions qhen the weather is good! I have been working out by myself for a month now and I am seeing a big difference! It is always nice to have a trainer to keep me motivated but right now I can't afford it! So what is your favourite way of staying fit, have you ever tried to workout at home?

That is a very practical way to make some effective ways to make you slim and fit.I believe in your cause to become healthier.I too, just do what I though might also help
me become thinner, yet Life has a lot to offer, that I sometimes forgot I have been exercising to become fit.I have been making some stomach stretching, but I have not really done it everyday, just like to do it when I felt doing it.I like to really trim
down my belly,it was already protruding out.I am afraid I can not control its size.I
have purchased an abs rocket just to make my stomach exercise frequently done everyday,so that I could look slim and fit. When I go out I just walk, make myself perspire and then used the abs rocket so that I can perspire a lot to help me trim
my desired stomach size.

I would also like to ask you, for how long do you walk in order to get best results?
I started walking for around 45 minutes every other day but I haven't seen and results in slimming down yet from walking. I thought it would be the best exercise for getting slimmer legs, how is it working out for you?

I hope you will achieve your goal and have the flat stomach that you want! I am doing some abs exercises as well and I think that it helps to do some HIIT to slim your belly and make your abs visible!
Thanks for your comment, have a great day :)

I do go to the gym, three times a week and have gym membership, because I am paying for it I will go, although I don't like socializing, I prefer to work out on my own and there is no interaction between myself and other members. I did once buy some gym equipment which I put up in my bedroom, but there were too many temptations, like the computer, the television and I didn't put the same time in as I did when I was at the gym, so I know for me, the gym works. It's also safer because I had a bad accident when I was using my mountain bike and I find that pounding the pavements when jogging jolts my knees to much, at least the machines at the gym are safer, albeit indoors.

I agree that you might not be so focused at home comparing to the gym! My solution to this includes two things:
Firstly, a specific daily and weekly goal and also a long term goal that motivates me to come back to the workout every single day.
Secondly, I am not trying to do the exercises alone, I always use a fitness dvd or a video that gets me through each exercise with very specific resting times and repetitions. This way I feel like I have to finish this workout and I don't think about anything else while I am doing the workout!
Since you already have a gym membership you should definitely continue going to the gym, but I suggest you to try doing a dvd workout sometime, it's fun!

To stay fit we can do workout at home too but its hard to do workout at home as we need some basic machines like bicycle , jogger , dumbells etc which are little expensive. We can do basic cardio lke skipping , jogging or simple walk etc which can help you to remain fit. But in my opinion the gym is better then doing workout at home because you will get some motivations by going to gym and you make a routine for it as usually in home people skip the time by getting busy in some other work. You can stay fit home but gym is also a better decision.

It depends on the individual, I also think that the gym offers motivation to some people. There are so many workouts that you can do without any weights, you just need a mat for the floor! Most of my workouts have no equipment and they are so hard to finish, the body weight is enough to make them so hard that I barely finish 3 cycles of repetitions!

I've actually never been a member of a gym and yet I've had a lot of success in losing weight at home. I do have some DVDs that I will use and I also have a stationary bike and traditional bike as well. However, I have to say that for me the thing that I enjoy the most is the fitness based video games. I believe that the reason that I like these so much is because of the fact that it does give you some feedback as you are working out.

Do you have wii at home! It sounds like a great workout, I have heard it from other friends as well but I've never played! The stationary bike is a good exercise as well, however I prefer regular bikes because I can go for cycling in the nature and exercise while I enjoy the spring time!
Thanks for your comment, have a nice weekend!

I don't understand it, either, why most people tell everyone to go to the gym to get in shape. Just because it's trendy, it is not the only form of exercise that keeps you fit. I, for example, like team sports more than using some fitness machines, because I'm quite competitive :D.

Team sports are great exercise and they teach us many skills as well! I used to play volleyball for many years and I liked it more than any other exercise or workout!
I think team sports are fun, they bring you in contact with other people, they teach you how to handle competitiveness because you learn to accept the fact that you may lose a game without giving up!

Hey I agree with you. Gym membership is waste of money as well as time. Be active in household chores it will also help to be fit. It is aldi the better exsercise. We can try out different exsercise at home also. Our daily activities also keep us fit then y should we join gym?

What kind of exercise is aldi? I agree that we can replace the gym by daily activities and workouts. For some people the gym gives some kind of motivation which is great if they can't create a personal program at home! But if we can be consistent with our fitness schedule then home exercises can work great!

For years I cycled to work and my longest trip was 12 miles there and back. It was a rural route. I took in fresh air, saw pretty villages and had healthy exercise. It kept my legs in top shape.
I have seen people jogging along the beach path and that seems great exercise. I know my local library has disks people can borrow showing aerobics style exercises. Some people are lucky enough to swim safely at their local beach.
My favorite way to keep fit is Zumba dancing. I go to two sessions a week of that. I have the music disks of it at home. Therefore I can dance in that energetic way in my lounge. I do one hour of walking per week day.
I buy a years membership at my local sports center. It is cheaper than paying per month on a rolling contract.

It seems that you are doing your best to keep fit! I would love to run at the beach! I have tried it once and running in the sand is quite difficult!
My city only has 1 gym and it only has the monthly membership so this is not an option for me! Zumba dancing sounds interesting, and if you are practicing for a long time you will probably know the steps by now!
I am also doing some fitness dvd's and this week I went for walking 3 times already! If I feel like running, I can also do that when I get out of the city limits.
Thanks for your comment, it is always motivating to talk with people who are active!
And sorry for the delayed response, I just realised that I hadn't responded back to this discussion!

Actually I had a membership at a gym in my city but wasn't able to keep at it cuz of lack of motivation. But recently I did try some HIIT exercises at home and I must say it felt good. I did them for two weeks & lost 3kilo of weight...i plan to continue doing exercises at home rather than joining a gym..

Pity me because I can't even ride a bicycle. LOL. I guess my only options are brisk walking and running. I don't exercise a lot though. If I only have enough time before I go to work that's the time I exercise. I want to be physically fit. I always tell myself to exercise but I usually sleep late in the morning because I also sleep late at night. I hope I can discipline myself to exercise regularly.

You can bring exercise gradually in your daily schedule. I didn't think about working out regularly when I was younger and super thin because I was feeling great with my body! But as we grow up, exercise is important to help us maintain a healthy living and feel better physically! I have noticed a big difference in my everyday life since I started working out reagularly.

Hi Cutie!
It work different for each person, the important thing is to stay fit and do some form of exercise! And there are many ways to do that even if you can't afford a gym membership. The traditional gym with equipment etc is not my favourite but I would like to attend fitness classes like aerobic, yoga, pilates etc with a trainer! But since the monthly fee is too expensive for me at the moment, I decided to try the home workouts and I have to say that I am very satisfied with the results!
Thanks so much for your comment, have a nice day!

You don't need a gym. I commute back and forth to work each day on my bicycle. Not only am I in better than most people my age, I save money on gas to boot.

I like your solution, it is much more interesting doing your exercise in the fresh air, cycling is a wonderful way of keeping fit, getting to know your area and moving fast without getting sore feet. I would prefer to privacy of my own home to a gymn any day.

Cycling is great, I enjoy it a lot especially in spring because I can go outside of the city and be in the nature! Working out at home offers privacy indeed, but sometimes the space is not enough for me to do everything in the program and I have to move the furniture! But it works well so far and I really enjoy it! lol

Rope jumping is the best exercise! I like it since I was a child and I also do it during my workouts! About the equipment, I am keeping it simple so far, I have a yoga mat and a pair of weights. I think that's enough since most of the exercises in my program are done with the body weight.

My mom started home workout since I was still in elementary and she made a good influence towards my family, particularly me, sometimes my sister and my friends. I started working out at home whenever I have free time.
Some people thought it's boring to work-out alone and I think that's one of the reasons why people rather go to the gym since there will be a lot of people. My mother and I are already used to it though. I don't think it's really necessarily important to have someone to work-out with you, it's just one way of finding excuses to avoid exercising.
Exercise depends on the person's will to stay fit not to because you are alone and it's boring to do it.

Hello! Working out at home might be boring for some people because there are too many distractions. However if you are motivated, then it is easy to have a schedule and make it work! It is good to do some outdoors exercise as well, like running or cycling when the weather is good!
It looks like you have a nice exercising habit in your family, and it's great that you follow your mother's example and exercise with her! I think that having people around is great for fitness classes but not so fun in the gym, I had felt uncomfortable in a few occassions when I had a gym membership due to the indiscretion of some other members when me and my girl friends were working out.

I don't like gyms either. Because I am a tiny short person, most of the machines like the rowing machines or bike machines are always too big for me to use anyways because its too hard for me to reach the pedals :p Right now I am walking/hiking around rivers on the weekend with my boyfriend as my exercise. I also used to use Wii dance games to help burn calories. Another great way to get in shape is to jump rope, they are cheap, you can do it at home, and it doesn't take very much time at all to be efficient.

Gym memberships are unnecessary and, for most people, a complete waste of money.
Staying fit doesn't require a gym membership. What it does require is that one be active. If you are doing active work--cleaning house, splitting wood (I plan to have a wood stove when my boyfriend and I buy a home), etc.--, walk to places (or drive to your destination town/city, park and walk from place to place), have active hobbies (yoga, skiing, tennis, ect.), etc., you should be getting enough exercise.

Some people enjoy the gym more than other activities and I understand that. But having some nice hobbies, walking, going for a run or be part of a sport activity is a nice way to stay fit and active. Those activities also help us keep our balance in life and have a healthy body and mind. And for those who want to add some extra workouts before the summer and don't want to spend a lot on the gym membership, those home workouts are great and most of the times they come with a specific schedule to keep you motivated!

Agree with you. Since my youth I never join a gym. But I did join some martial arts for 1 year. I got some of its exercise and still practice it occasionally at home, alone. It helps me stay healthy and fit. In additional I did cycling and taking longer route while doing my jobs by walking. So actually for those whose job still has physical activity they do not need to go to a gym. A walk is also healthy.
But for those working in front of the computerr whole day long, I think going to the gym is worthy enough.

Most jobs have to do with a computer, in that case I have realised that regular stretching is the most important. The gym is great if you enoy this kind of exercise and if you can afford it, especially the fitness classes if they are included in the price!

I enjoy cycling as well! My aunt gave me her old bicycle which is better than the one I had and I am using it a lot. But the weather is not so great yet, I am waiting for the sunny days in order to get out in the nature for longer rides!
To be honest, I just do home workouts at the moment and some running when it's not raining outside. I look forward for the weather to be better again!
