hi there kokomo, with reference to your post, maybe you can refer to those handy pocket books wherein the basic sign language is illustrated. hence, you can bring this with you anytime the moment you will meet your cousin. i just remember before that i took a free course on how to speak and act the sign language, wherein at first, it is quite difficult but i have able to grasp it eventually.

Oh, I learned finger spelling when I was still an elementary student. We just learned it for fun. I guess internet is the best tutor for you. Just keep on searching helpful information about sign languages. Goodluck. I hope you'll learn a lot.

I also have a cousin that is mute and deaf and that we do understand each other though i don't have any sign language lessons but she jut thought me how to understand her through actions and also by writing in the air. Yes, their English is not that good but still you do understand them. Sometimes i do the alphabet sign language for me to talk to her. Its nice to be with my cousin we just laugh about some things and that some people will look to us and see their eyebrows wrinkled. You could ask your cousin to teach you the basic sign language that you must learn, it'll do work.
