I got hired as a Travel Sales Agent

This is a position that I did not expect. The interviewer just assigned me to this account. And I don't even know what made them think that I know about sales. True, being a sales agent gives one many opportunities to gain incentives, especially if the job is done well. I am worried I might not do well at the job because I am a complete noob at it. I hope my training will help me gain more confidence and improve the necessary skills for this position. I am a rather laid back and quite person, so imagine how scary it is for me to talk to people for hours. I find that tiring to be honest. I don't how long I can hold with that job, I was hoping more on the service department though I love the chat support and transcription position more because I don't have to talk much. Any advice? Thank you guys!

Haha! Yeah, thank you dainy. I will keep my focus. Even when I have doubts I will do what I can. My family is so pissed of my negativity and lack of confidence. I really have no idea why the interviewer assigned me to sales. I'm not the business type, never been. Somehow the interviewer tested me about what is good about our countries economy, thankfully, I read a good article that day about the topic so I said everything I can recall from what I have read. Then he said, 'You just sold to me your country. That is selling.' I was like I never intended to sell anything. I merely asked his questions.

Congratulations for getting a Job Aja, now you are in much better position than your boyfriend, who you know what.... Okay that is different story, now you have to get yourself prepared for training, first job always give some nervous type, but everyone make it when they know how to work on it. If possible, you should request for transfer in service department, but don't forget to learn all new things in training, it will help you build your future.

Yugo, that's so funny and wicked. but yeah, my boyfriend is still studying his @ss off right now so I am kind of ahead. Though I won't let my guard down. I am rather competitive with my boyfriend. I hate losing to him. After I told him the news about me getting accepted, he was super delighted. I am relieved too cause that means he won't be nagging me anymore. Thank you so much for your thoughtful advice. You are right, I need to learn new skills to become a better professional/worker. It won't hurt to learn new skills. Though I am a little bit scared of failure, I will keep moving forward. If possible, then of course, I'll assert that I be transferred in the transcription or chat department. I'm a better typist than I am a speaker anyway. For now, I have to accept whatever position they give me. It will be tough so I really need support from everyone. Thank you so much!

He won't be nagging you because he knows that now you can nag him down D New job and new role are available for you, you will soon understand many things. Such happened to me when I was transferred to different section which was the most difficult among all other section with a strict boss, but I made it and everything works there fine.

I really hope that the training will give me all I really need. I have very little confidence in myself when it comes to making sales and talking to people. That makes me tired real fast. Thank you for the support, chiyo-san!

It is a new journey for you. And that being the only available job for you to do, you should learn everything that there is to know. You might be just one great sales agent after all. When I joined a call center before, I really didn't know anything. But because of the training that I took and also the will to learn and embrace new things, I did good in it. I am sure you'd be a great Sales Agent!

Thank you Jenny. I hope it will turn out well for me too. I have lost a lot of confidence due to some painful experiences at work last year. I dread them happening again. I don't ever want to screw up any job.

Take seRiously the training! And the rest will follow. Let your mindset be like this " Reverse Psych". Put yourself on their shoes and think aout the things they can feel convience towards heir travel. Giving them some a good and energetic reply gives them a confidence that you can handle their travel smoothly. If you have a mindset like this then all the customer you will have handle is satisfied. Because you think like you were in therir shoes.

You are lucky because you will undergo training before you will start your job. Be teachable, willing to learn about your job. Don't pretend that you know it but in reality, you don't have any idea. Accept your weaknesses and do an effort to gain more sales.

I thought I was strong and motivated. But maybe not enough to handle the sudden change. Thankfully, many of you here are very positive about it and it makes me not want to let everyone of you down. Thank you very much! Okay. I will turn my brain into a sponge capable of filling as much information as possible so I will learn quickly. I honestly told the interviewer I have no idea about sales. Although I did get a few hints from researching and interacting online.

I happy for you my friend. I guess, you have impressed the interviewer that is why he/she had assigned you to sales department. Anyway, being new I guess they will give you training/familiarization so that you can easily adapt to the said job. Being already there I just hope you enjoy the most of it.

Thank you stan! Yeah, I admit I thought about running and backing off because I have dreaded being a sales person and failing at it. I have no experience at it at all. The interviewer simply asked me from the beginning if I was into sales. I said I know nothing about it. So he found a way to test me. He really tricked me. But I was able to answer him well enough I guess because he looked somewhat satisfied.

I'm not sure. Training starts next month. Though this time, I'm not even sure I will be working for that company. I'm applying in another company that doesn't involve me talking and selling and that appeals to me more.

I may not be much help because I am not a 'people' person myself. I've always been more comfortable working as a 'back room' person where I do not have to deal with people face to face or talk to them all the time. I work best on my own.

same here. I also work great with other people but I think I am at my best when I do it by myself.

Hi Aja ! You are so blessed indeed ! Be grateful for that ! Anything can be learned , soon you'll be able to adjust to the nature of that work and soon you'll be expert in that field and would be able to love that work. The way i see it , it is a very challenging work . All you need at present is more of patience , a little of sacrifice then a big smile. Goodluck Aja ! More blessings for you.

Oh, a big smile and more patience. Both things I am bad at Can you see why I have little confidence in myself regarding this job. But, yes, it is a blessing. I don't want to mess it up. So I will do my best and hopefully, it will turn out great. I plan to be an investor someday, so I might as well learn about sales.

Thank you lilly. I have to be prepared mentally and physically. If I let fear and anxiety overwhelm me, I won't be able to move forward. Thinking positively is really hard and especially when my family is hostile about my negativity. It upsets me even more.

Being a travel sales agent would require you to know about the destinations your company offers and you will need to know as many languages as possible and communicative skills. This job is really not that bad as you can earn certain incentives from it too. So now you must get used to handle and communicate with people. Make sure that you enjoy interacting with people so that you can give the best of service. At the same time, read as many material as possible to gain necessary knowledge on destinations.
