We have a new house-help who used to work for another family with the father who had to undergo dialysis three times a week. Since the wife works full-time, the helper was asked to accompany the husband to the hospital 3x a week for the dialysis. She was wondering however why her employer would wake up at dawn and crunch on ice, plenty of ice. It would make a lot of noise since he would literally bite on the ice cubes. I am also wondering why he does this. Has this anything to do with the treatment he is having? Does the dialytic procedure make a patient feel hot inside or thirsty maybe?
I also saw one time a man munching on a bowl of ice. When I asked him why he said the weather was too hot he didn't like to have heat stroke so he is eating ice.

maybe he has mental problem that is why do it every morning. It's unusual to see somebody eating ice cube early in the morning which even during after we won't do it except we are eating ice cream or ice drop. Ice cubes is different and it's abnormal

While dialysis cleans the blood, it can also do some other stuff.
I've heard if you are anemic, you sometimes chew ice, for whatever reason, maybe the man was a little anemic, or something.
Or, the other thing is that when they take the blood out, it sometimes cools a bit and he's trying to cool his body before the cooled blood hits him?
I know they were doing an IV on a friend and the saline was colder than her body temp and she was shivering...

All I can say is that employer has a demon spirit that is manipulating him to eat ice just as what I have seen in youtube when TB Joshua is casting out demons on such abnormal addictions. The body is the temple of the holy spirit and if a person has given a foothold of the devil, he will come in and reside on that body, not unless will be delivered by a man of God.

I dont have any idea about dialysis munching an ice. But what I know is that people who has cancer. Loves to do that even taking a shower with drying themselves with dry clothes. The explaination is that after the medication or in the middle of medication the stuff going to their veins is really giving them a hot temperature. They tend to shower more the times the normal person do. I have a close friend went through to that. And I witnessed that he is taking a shower with drying himself. He just let hinself wet just like recently get out from a pool. That's all

I know with some medications they give you a constant thirst, mine do, I have an under-active thyroid gland and the tablets I take give me a dry mouth and I am always drinking, I am also heat insensitive, so I often suck on an ice cube, if you constantly drink then you are constantly needing the toilet.

hi cutie if thats all he did I would not worry abo ut it as lots of people like tp suck on or much on ice cubes. I wp uld not call that exactly a nutty thing to do. I would not munch on a bowl of ice cubes but I have often munched on one ice cube and have seen others do that too.a one should mind ones own business over something like that.

Chewing that stuff can damage gums and teeth. Why do people do that? It's simply a case of addiction. Perhaps at first, they would claim to calm them down or shun the heat away but there may also be other reasons.

i think he was totally depressed and all that suppression would have surely taken a toll on him and ultimately he decided to take this strange bowl of ice and chew it

based on this website, yes, it's related.
Q. What can I do if I am on dialysis and I am thirsty?
Ans.
Thirst is a very common problem for people on dialysis, and if you are thirsty, it probably means you are trying to stay within your fluid limits. Good for you, this will help you stay healthier! Here are a few tips.
Reduce salt in the diet. Salt makes you thirsty.
Follow regular thrice a week dialysis
Drink small amounts of water or ice cubes.

i do like eating the ice cubes after i finish my coke or mountain dew when i eat at fastfood restaurants. it's like drinking water after eating (though i always have a bottle in my bag also).
