Do you bother to look deeper into movies for meaning?

Watching movies is a good way to enjoy our free time. However, movies are taken for granted sometimes. We get too distracted by all the special effects and actions that we often fail to see the message of the film.
It is also sad to note that not all movies actually intend to send a good message to its audience. In our society today, it's mostly about profit and giving the audience what they want to see, fearing to explore further and take some risk in making possibly great films. Some stick to the same old stories, to play safe knowing that it will be familiar to the audience.
This is one of the reason I personally hate movie hypes and movies that don't have much meaning at all. Typical movies may impress us... but only for awhile unless it has a strong moral lesson or message that can be applied in our modern lives.
So, I have seen some movies that actually moved me so much, they made me cry. Yes, I'm emotional. I do feel good because that means I understood the story. I pity those who just glue their eyes to the tube and don't really learn much from what they just saw. PITIFUL!
Some of movies that I have seen which are surprisingly meaningful are Mary Poppins, Meet the Robinsons, Life of Pi and many others.
Do feel free to share movies that you find meaningful and worth watching.
Thanks!

I am not a movie lover and because of same taste. Movies of today have no message, but they have an impact which is bad impact because they are mad for such audience which want to watch only badass. With no good movie at all I go for comedy movies only for laugh and whatever the message is, and also zombie movies or horror movies which have thrilling entertainment of human fighting the beast and helping each other.

Movies are meant to be entertaining most of the time. They don't always have to convey a good message. they are made to entertain people. However, movies which have more meaning are satisfying and good too. It is best to watch a variety of movies, not just from one genre.

Maybe they are out of ideas so they resort to such actions. I don't really blame them though. It is not easy to come up with a masterpiece of a movie.

That depends on the reason we watch the movies I think. Sometimes after a busy day working, it is not necessary to watch a serious movie which may add stress on us. We just need an easy film with popcorn in our hands.
You mentioned sending message from the movies, I agree that not all the movies have some meanings. In some cases I even doubt that whether the producer knows that it is a terrible movie. But it is produced.
If I want to enjoy the movie, usually I will find an afternoon and check the recommendation from others and pick one. After I watch the movie, I will also do some research about the movie's background and the understanding of others.
BTW I like Life of Pi, it gives me a different view to the world.

That's also true. When we are stressed we prefer easy movies. I personally prefer cartoons and animations because they are light hearted and easy to understand. Plus the colors and effects cheer me up.
Some producers don't care so much about the movie, just the profit. But there are artistic people out there who put so much effort into their art and the whole movie. Some actors and actresses are quite dedicated too.
Life of Pi is intensely spiritual a movie. It's hard for me to understand it thoroughly. I do agree about each religion to have some truth in them. Not only one religion is correct. Religion is often has a narrow view, that is what I think, while people could have pondered more and reflect instead of just listening to someone lecturing about the teachings of a religion. Sorry, I got carried away with the religion and stuff.

Not really bad movie, just typical movie that most of the audience are familiar with and would likely watch.
Same here. I didn't like the human version. It is not known which story is true though, it doesn't really matter because the author wanted us to reflect and have our own views.

I wonder how can a terribly bad movie make profit for the company? I understand the finest movie may not receive a box-office smash. But I don't think horrible movie can.
Life of Pi not only tells about the religion, I think it also tells us about how you view the world. The cruel story of Pi might be true (I think it is true), but I'd rather to believe the beautiful one, the one that makes you believe in god.

I'd tend not to look for deep parallels between movies and the real world when I watch them, though James Cameron's "Avatar" had a strong environmental Message running through it.."One Flew over the Cuckoo's nest","The Green Mile",and "Shawshank Redemption" would be some of my personal top rated Movies..

I love avatar too!
It's not just about the environment, it's about how far humans can go and turn into beasts because of their greed.

When films are confusing, we want to find the answers and often we get to dig deeper to understand the movie. Like the case with inception.

The ending is meant to confuse people and make people not get over it too soon. LOL. Nolan did the same with the last batman movie. We all wonder whether batman survived the explosion. No definite answer. It's all speculation and theories and it makes the movie more interesting.

One of my favorite hobby is to watch movies. Seriously, I a movie junkie. It's one of my weakness. Every time I got bored, I end up watching quality movies. I do believe that some films is a reflection of who we are, who we wanted to be. In every films that we watched there's a lesson that we learned.
The Pursuit of Happyness and The Bucket List are the most inspiring movie I watched.

I have yet to watch the pursuit of happiness. I have heard of it. I'll try to look for it online and see how it is. Thank you for reminding me.
It's true that we see ourselves in the characters and analogies and symbols that reflect real life.

HI!
I prefer to watch only those movies which have some special kind of scripts and stories. I prefer not to watch run-of-the-mill stories or where story line is predictable. Most of our Bollywood movies have predictable stories, therefore, I watch only selected movies. I first read the reviews before going for a movie.

I see. I don't watch bollywood movies much. I only got to watch Khan's movies and they were good. Not as predictable as I thought, but they are very meaningful movies in my opinion.
Other bollywood movies are too much on slow motion and acting. Too much acting and it's harder for me to be convinced of their acting LOL.

My answer to your question is, no. For me, movies are purely entertainment. I watch them purely for enjoyment. I even collect them on DVD and Blu-Ray. But, that's not to say that I don't occasionally find myself inspired by movies. I even watch movies that occasionally make me cry. But I never watch a movie with the attitude that I can learn something from it. If I want to learn something I read a book that WILL teach me something, like history, for example.

It depends on the movie. Haha, as long as we sometimes find meaning in a movie, though not all the time, i think that is enough.
My family collects dvds, blue-rays, cds, vhs, tapes, etc. My dad is obsessed with them.

I find The Matrix to be a very profound movie. In particular, during the fight scene between Morpheus and Neo, Morpheus asked a thought-provoking question, "Do you believe that my being stronger or faster has anything to do with my muscles ... in this place?"
I try to reflect on this question hoping that a change in perspective will help me succeed in my online ventures.

Hmm, I don't recall that line. The matrix was awesome, action, special effects and story. It's a movie that's ahead of its time.
How does that message apply to your success in your online ventures?

From what i know, there is 2 types of Film, the Commercial film (just aiming for the good money or profit) and the Art film (usually commercially not usually make a good money profitl, but have deeper meanings)
I once watched art film (i forget the title) and yes art film needs our deeper understanding to watch, and need to being watched at least 2 times to understand whats the meaning or message the film want to tell us.

that is the purpose of watching movie for me to get the meaning of movie and the lessen that I get from that .... we can learn a lot by movies and I think that is the purpose of media as there are still so many people who do not know or care that much about humanity and some movies really try to teach them to be better in their life and to behave better with their family... anyway I love comedy movies which make me smile for some time...

Movies are stories that more or less be better with good lessons in the end. Not only will it be a good source of entertainment, but also a learning material. If people will only think more and apply what they have learned. Even some movies give lessons they don't intend to give.

The actors and actresses from back then became celebrities mostly because of their talents. Nowadays, it's usually just about the looks. As long as this person is popular among the masses and pretty, who cares about his or her abilities as an artist? It's really disappointing to see younger celebrities became instantly famous and yet grow up to be failing adults. Take for example: Lindsay Lohan.

It depends on what purpose I have in watching particular movies. I do watch science fiction because I want to see the special effects. However, I am also looking for deeper message and meaning. Though we have to put in mind that it depends on the person how he puts meaning to it because not all messages we learn or get from watching a certain movie does not mean the same with others who watched it.

Everyone has their own interpretations of a movie. It's what makes the movies more intriguing to begin with, especially those movies with an ambiguous ending.
Science fiction is great! I am a sucker for special effects too, though occasionally I would like to watch something else that is unique.

citizen cane pisses me off with the "rosebud " in the end, utterly useless other than the person who made the movie its like an inside joke that only the movie makers of this film has, i didn't bother looking for the meaning or digging for it,
mary poppins was great till you get to your teens and then ask yourself why you even liked it, then grow a few years to appreciate it again,
maybe biblical movies?
nope, not even

I just hope that popular films would have a more positive example to the audience.
Haha, that's true. Mary Poppins is great, the songs are awesome, you'd sing them over and over.
I don't watch biblical movies much. They do help us remember biblical stories better. That's okay.

I always check the movie before watching it.
I am not after the actor or actress who plays the lead role- but the story.
But sometimes- story summary sounds good to attract the movie goers.
I prefer documentaries and real event movies.

Documentaries are interesting though I don't often watch them. I like movies with awesome graphics and fun. Serious movies bore me most of the time.
Yeah, it doesn't matter who the actors and actresses are as long as they can really act well and the storyline is interesting and good.

Whenever I watch a movie, I really have full concentration on the plot. No matter how great the special effects are, what gets me glued in front of it is the kind of story it has.
