a story:
There was an old man.. he breaks everything in his son's house. plates, glass and everything because he is very old and his hands are trembling... so the son got angry.. for breaking all his things at home.
So the son gave this old man (his father) coconut husk and can for eating. So he won't break anything anymore.
One the son saw his son busy cleaning left over coconut husk and cleaning cans. then he asked his son "What are you doing?" his son replied "I am preparing, dad.". The son confused ask "preparing for what?" then the little boy answered... "for you, so when you get old you are going to use these too,"
From then on, the son realized what he has been doing to his father, give his father good bed to rest, feed him so well and he never gets angry even if his father breaks something in the house.

Respect like education begins at home. At home we have our children and our parents whom are children call them grandfather and grandmother. We have to show our respect and reverence for our father and mother at home or outside home. If our children see us showing respecting our parents they in turn will show their respect for us.

I absolutely agree with you, Iriene. Respect like education begins at home. From young I taught respect for the elders to my son. When my man friend visit me at home I tell my son to address him as uncle or my wife's lady friend, then my son is to address her as auntie. Of course my brother or sister or mu wife's brother or sister then he has to address as uncle or auntie.

Hi,
Children always try to copy their parents. if parents behave respectfully to everyone then children also behave nicely with everyone. If parent are not nice with others children also become arrogant or rude with others.
Thank you for the response.

Respect to others is a basic manner that we all should possess, especially to the elders. It is certainly true that if you respect others, others will respect you too, because what is in your mind and what you do from your heart will eventually show in your behavior. People will feel the positive aura around you.

I think we all need to be respectful without any condition that we should be respected too. Respect should be a part of us but sad to say not all people were taught how to be respectful so if you are in a circumstance where you feel like you get disrespected, do not retaliate but show how decent you are. Show that you respect that person who disrespected you. In that way, that person will realize his bad attitude and at the same time other people will also commend you on how professional you are.

Hi,
you are right. We should respect those people who disrespected us. By doing this we make them to realize their mistake and they try to improve their behavior.

In Asian societies we have been told to respect and have reverence for our elders since young. My mother taught me this value when I was a small boy. When elders are having some talks or discussion we are not to interject or intrude into their conversation. To translate literally from Chinese quote by my mother, " Children have hears but no mouth."
This means when children listen to what adults discuss children must not join in the discussion. This is also called respect for the elders. When parents scold their children they are not support to retort back.

Hi,
You are right. In India children are not allowed to disturb elders when they are talking. We also didn't disturb my parents in my childhood. When our parents scold us or angry with us we were not allowed to answer back. Only be quiet and listen them.
thank you for the response.

I think it is very important that we respect others. We value how others view and treat us so it's important that we are kind and considerate with other people as well. Everyone can feel better about themselves when this takes place.

I also believe the saying is true, treat others how you expect others to treat you, it's a two way thing, I was taught from a young age to respect my elders and never to be rude or answer back, which I think is important to learn from a young age, manners cost nothing, although for some people you'd think they'd cost a fortune as they don't frequently use them. Thank you for sharing.

Well my father once told me this phrase: "Respect others, and make you respect from others." In my case, however, I want to focus the attention more than anything else on the second part of this sentence.
This is because respect others that after all it is our duty, is something very easy, but be respected by others, it takes a bit of personality, a bit of character, etc..
However, I carry with respect to all, but also because of my mental illness, unfortunately did not come able to respect myself from bullying others.
I hope for a better future!

Hi,
i think being respected by others depends upon our behavior. Those people who don't respect you for your illness are not capable of getting respect from others also, because they don't deserve that. They are emotionless. You should not be upset by their behavior. But you continue respecting other. And neglect those people who are rude with you. Always positive. Future is better for you.
thank you for the response.

Hi Ros ! It is a very simple rule , let us know how to respect ourselves and we will know how to respect others . We can't give what we don't have ! If we have a very huge respect to ourself , it is expected then that this much respect we are giving to our fellows and Karma speaks always , respect will be given and shown to us in return.

It is a topic related with morality and I like the topic. Thank you for that. Moral erosion is well depicted in the society currently. No respecting to other is largely responsible to the gradual degradation of relationship. When someone will respect other, he will take the responsibility of respecting other logic, views and opinions. First respect other and getting respect is its logical sequence. If the practices go to every level, many problems will be solved and our society will advance to the peace and prosperity.

Hi,
You are right. Giving respect to others depends on the moral values of a person. If everyone practice this moral value of giving respect to everyone the world would be a better place.
Thank you for the response.

Learning respect starts from home. A child needs to learn how to respect others at their young age. We need to respect one another especially the elders. We also need to learn that "respect is earned", so we cannot demand respect from someone. If we learn to give more respect to others, we will surely receive much respect from others in return...[em]happy[/.em].

Hi,
you are right. We should remember that respect is earned and we can not get respect by demanding it. It depends on our behavior with others.
Thank you for the response.
