When my dog died 5 years ago I was very heart broken and never got another dog which had a lot to do with living in an apartment too.
A friend of mines dog passed away and she was in very bad shape for month after that.
I just seen her again a few weeks ago and she finally got another dog, we kept telling her she needed to go out and get another dog course she is just not happy without one by her side. She didn't think she could ever find another dog like Jo-Jo but she found a beautiful German Sheppard that is just a wonderful companion to her.
Some people just need to have a pet in their life, I miss my princess but I'm happy not having another animal even though every time I see a puppy I go...."I WANT ONE"
You think getting a new pet right after yours passes is a good thing?

I think there's a right time for everyone. For some it may be never, for others, pretty much straight away and for others maybe a couple of years will pass. we are all different and hopefully, when the time is right, we will find the dog that is meant for us.
After my Pixie went, I waited a few years to get Lucy and she needed rescuing. It all came together well and we are still together but I am so lucky because I'm in my own home again and I have Lucy, Pickles, Tulip, Banjo and Benji. Not all dogs but certainly we are all good mates.

I sometimes think if I had a house I would take in all kinds of fury friends, I do love to have another dog some day but I have to get out of my little place first

I think it just depends on the person. A person who lives alone especially may want to do a rather quick replacement. For older people who live alone having a pet is a good reason to move and do things. Having said that, I am not replacing my pets as I lose them. I want some freedom from taking care of things and people for a while. Of course, it does not seem that the two cats I have are in any danger of passing. . . but when they do, I am going petless for a while.

It sure was hard when it was time to go on vacation or just go somewhere for a day or 2 cours I had no one to take care of my dog at the time, I think for about 5 out of the 10 years I had her I didn't go anywhere for more than a day and then I felt guilty by leaving her alone.

It's a good thing for the pooch that gets rescued.

I can't live without having a cat or dog next to me. Right now I have a dog which is almost 16 years old. I know that her time will come soon. I believe that we have to think positive and although it hurts loosing them we have to think that they had a nice life, filled with joy for both sides. There is never too soon to have another pawed friend.
