Hi,
My son is IT engineer. Some people ask him that what do you do in your company? Just sitting in front of computer and typing fro whole day or anything else? He feel very insulted. Computer knowledge is a vast knowledge. It is not a visual typewriter. It is much more beyond that.
I give another example. Some people think that why dentists have to study for so long years? Their job is only to uproot the teeth and give painkillers.
I think some people don't have any knowledge about ant thing and they go on insulting without thinking.
So we should think before speaking. Do you have such experience?

People now days are rather narrow minded. If they can't understand or fathom what is done they imagine it is just simple and can't get into complex terms because they don't understand. Yes, they should think before speaking. And maybe not speak at all but observe and learn.

Hi,
You are right. Some people are very narrow minded and they don't try to understand and know about what they are speaking. And should tell their opinion or ask questions after observing or learning the things.
Thank you for the response.

Well,I do have plenty as i too am an IT engineer. My town is not known for engineers and i am perhaps one of the earliest and elite ones in that group. When i joined an american mnc, nobody knew what i was doing.I was asked whether it was call centre or not.Whether i work in nights and find tough for future and things like that. There were not much advts of that company in Indian televisions at that point of time.My present organisation shares its name with a well known petrol pump and oil company.Sometimes people ask why i work in petrol pumps after graduating in engineering. The most tough questions, some people ask are why I was not good enough to get work in Indian companies and will i be ever able to get in Indian companies. Most of the times, i choose to ignore because explaining to them would be tough and some of them will not understand the Indian and international IT sectors. Most of times, people without understanding things or from hear say ask things.Well, perhaps slowly people might reform.Anyways some of them has atleast in my experience. But then i also keep a low profile instead of boasting on things. It helps me and also i can keep focussed on my life and dreams. Thanks!

hi,
You are too an IT engineer like my son. You have also have the experience of silly questions of people. They can't understand anything and ask questions. It is better to ignore these people and shouldn't try toe explain them. It's of no use. You are right that we should not be boastful of our position. We should be hubble.
thank you for the response.

Many times. I got a lot of questions that sounded insulting and I also do that sometimes. It's just small talk, trying to start a conversation or just trying to sustain a conversation. I don't find them offensive since I do ask those silly questions sometimes just to sustain a conversation.

Hi,
It is very nice that you take it lightly and don't think negatively about people. May be we also ask silly questions and we are unaware of it. We also should think before speaking.
Thank you for the response.

I am sure he feels insulted...but he really needs to advise
them that he is doing something that he is sure they can't
do...I would tell them yes thats what I do and thats all I
need to do at my job to get paid and very well at that...
Some people do just run their mouth just to run their mouths.
Not having any idea of what they are talking about or how it
sounds or could effect someone else...Kudos to your son and
his tedious employment....

Yes, I also experience that. When I decided to resign from my work at a private company, there is my neighbor that say" why you leave your work and choose to stay at home in front of your computer? what you get from your new activity"? yes, she never think before say that. It is very painful, she thinks that stay in front of computer cannot generate money.
I hope your son can prove to them that he can get success in his work. Have a nice day.

Hi,
when I started working on mylot, some people said that these all sites are scam and you shouldn't work on such sites. But I ignored their advice and continued working on mylot. We should not listen to stupid advices from others.
My son has well paid job. He is working honestly. And don't bother about others speaking.
thank you for the response.

That's rude for people to assume they know something about someone elses career. Our whole world runs on computer technology these days. And dentists need to know a lot so they can do the proper work on their patients. How would that person feel if someone jabbed at their profession? Seriously. I've experienced this kind of criticism from people because I have a goal of being an author and songwriter. Its not like I'm jumping into something random. I've won poetry awards and a songwriting award. I just sent my book to be copyrighted so I can start looking into agents and publishers. But I constantly hear "why don't you get a real job?" I wasn't aware there were fake jobs?

Hi,
It is nice that you have writing talent. People should encourage you to write more and more sons and poems. but some people are jealous and they try to discourage them who are getting success. You should ignore them and continue your efforts to publish your writings. Best of luck.
Thank you for the response.

Basically I can sum it up in just one word my friend 'ignorance' people tend to mock what they don't understand, sometimes it's due to jealousy, ignorance or stupidity. Unless you actually do the job in question, no one knows exactly what goes on and what it takes to train to be in that position in the first place. When people don't understand they tend to scoff and mock. I used to get a lot of derision and nastiness when I said I worked for a telecommunications company, they then think I am sitting on my backside all day answering the telephone, and that's it. They don't think for one minute the abuse you get, the complaints, the nastiness, the pressure to hit targets and statistics! I used to have to tell this machine when I wanted to go to the toilet to explain my absence as to why I wasn't taking calls! Only when you have done the job yourself can you truly comprehend what it entails.

I am always interested in what people do at their jobs. Having worked most of my life in a clerk type post, where others would say all I did was type all day long, I know that there are many hidden parts to any job. The job that I had concerned the law and I was in school at least two weeks each year just to keep up with the changes. Few people would understand that when I was doing my job I often had their financial future in my hands. So I never judge how simple or complex a job is. A person who cleans floors, is often the first person to see a problem with the building or the storage of chemicals and could very well save lives by being alert on the job.

Hi,
Everyone should be proud of himself for whatever is the job he is doing. He should not be ashamed of his job. Every job is important and no one has right to insult by speaking negatively about the job.

Some people do think that peeking into others' lives is their birthright and they will never stop unless something drastic happens with them too such that they realize their fault. I had a friend who kept pestering me (after I was ill and without a job) about my lifestyle is bad and I am jobless because of that - initially I kept listening to him but then when I felt that this was becoming regular, I told him in simple terms to mind his own business and not make his opinions on what I do or I should do. I am quite shrewd and never allow anyone to dictate me.
Hope you dont mind but - I think your son should realize that what he is doing is essential and an important job. Once he realizes that, the shame would go and he would not care a damn on what others think about his job. It is just self realization - I have seen several such instances in my career as a career consultant and personality development guy. In India, we have no dignity of labor and that is the biggest problem with people who hesitate doing or getting into certain jobs just because of - what others would think!

Hi,
It is very nice that you are straight forward. you have given right answer to the person who was disturbing you.
we a;ways think before doing any work what others think! But it is our life life and we don't bother about others. We can live our life as we want to live. But we should be honest to our work.
Thank you for the response.

Ha ha , there are lot of people like that.I am a marine engineer and work on ships,in a social gathering an old man asked me that whats the fun in your job, just like my driver drives the car you drive the ship.Funny thing is that he had never been near sea ever in his life, still passing judgement on how will be the life on ships.By that logic everything is easy.To build a Taj Mahal you just need to put some marble bricks together, for flying to space you need to sit in a rocket and you will get to moon just like going from one station to another in a train.Such fools would never think before speaking as they are too obsessed with the illusion that they are superior to others, best wishes.

Hi,
I have been through that before, people belittling my work as a paper pusher in some obscure office in my hometown, that was a long time ago. I didn't took offense, but had they known they could not do the things I could do, they should not say it. In my observation those who criticize the work of a dedicated person are oftentimes those who has no talent or skill at all. Maybe it is the way they hide their incompetency and inability to do difficult things properly, works best done by trained professionals for that matter.

Well, some people speak indiscriminately without first having connected their brains, unfortunately it is a fact.
Fact entirely negative, as statements such as those that you mentioned in your discussion sometimes may be offensive.
But some people may not realize that they connect their brains before speaking out of turn?
And above all, they are always polemic against other people. Difficult in fact starting to criticize some themselves!
These things to me make very angry!

When people say things to me, and I know they have not though, about what they wanted to ask me, I don't even bother answering them at all, because like you said people should think before they speak, and a lot of people don't do this, they will say the first thing, off the top of their head, with out thinking about it.

That is why in the Bible advise this :-
Slow to speak, fast to listen!
We should think before we speak. We must be a good listener.
I at times do asked silly question too. I am learning to
improve and be more diplomatic. I used to advise my husband
to be more tactful when talking or responding to others.

I took up dentistry in college and have also asked then why we have to deal with the whoke human body when our concern is only the head and neck. Then I realuzed that we shod also be aware of certain conditions that affect man which might also affevt the kind of treatment tnat we need to do on a patient.

Hi,
He should give some weird replies to such people and ignore them. He should say he open the keyboard and arrange them alphabetically.. lol.
I have a neighbor and she’s teacher by profession. Last sometimes I was not well and took half day to reach home early, she asked, why are you home, did you company tell they don’t need you? I took it light always but then one day I told her in private jobs there is no guarantee that tomorrow they will need my services. You should read newspapers and watch News to update your knowledge on job market. Now she’s been told by their school authorities to enhance her education. It is sad even the educated people open their mouth without thinking thereby hurting other’s feeling.

I had experience so many times. Some people are not having their own senses. In fact, they are more unskilled than talking with so many things to somebody. In my case, I ignore and let them talk and sooner or later, no one will ever talk to them. The fact, they don't have anything to offer and their heads are like an empty can.

Some people are used to rushing things and that includes speaking hastily without even thinking yet if what would come out of his or her mouth could kill or destroy a mood, a relationship, or even life itself. There are a few people who have learned the art of speaking or responding to someone hastily and still, can lift a person's spirits up. But most people should really think first before they speak.
