Does online-friendship truly work?

Internet has built a great way for the people who want to make friends all over the world. Earler, penfriendship was the way to meet people from a distance, but it was time consuming and a very costly affair. But today Internet has addressed the problem. Sitting at home we can know people who are 1000s of miles away from us. Skype brings people almost face to face. Other packages like Google Hangout etc. are also very effective in this field.
I feel in the coming days, friendship through Internet will even be able to prevent war among the nations. However, religious, political, social and racial dogmas, interests and superstitions will continue to oppose world peace, but surely a time will come when worldwide friendship will be able to restrain all those evil forces.
Tell me. What do you feel?

Song: Imagine - by John Lenin
When I go through your article I remember the above songs, your writings and it's meaning.
In my opinion these world is dominated by few of the greedy people who have lot's of wealth and want to dominate the people and the whole world. You can research on youtube with the title like "End Game, secrets of cia, the u.n. deception" etc. etc. They want us to be separated and has built a boundary with different deception like separate country, continent, caste, religion, colour of the people, height ... so that it will be easier for them. When all of us are divided then it will be easier for them to control upon us.
Actually I think we all the people of the world want peace, harmony, friendship to be bestowed upon this world as you said. We all need to keep on working and get the benefit of the technology and live the world with a boundary less world.

Truly, the world is dominated by some greedy people. They make people fight, kill and do evils. But they do not understand that they won't be able to take away anything from this world. They are always under tension, they keep others on tension, and they destroy all good things of the world.

In my opinion, every puts his mask on when he goes online. because the most amazing feature of internet I suppose is the secret. someone can not cover his weakness in a real life may want to appear online as the better one in his image, or he might just want to try a novel life style...
anyway, you can get a "real" friend online because you can not talk with a person in his house, take a drink with him in bar or don't know he realy likes the rose in his garden he told you through the internet.
Am I too gloomy?

Hi,
You are right. Now a days people have many online friends from far of the places in the world. As you said the world can become a better place by such friendship. But I don't have many friends on Facebook. I have added many friends on mylot. It is very nice experience of discussing them on many topics.

I kind of think of the internet as the new 'christmas card list'. when I was little, we had these 2 neighbor ladies that would compete on whose christmas card list was longer. Seriously. the more cards you would get, the more popular you were. One lady even put up the ones she'd get from Sears, or Car Dealerships, just to prove how popular she was. Really silly back then. I think there is the same kind of mind set now with the internet.
That being said, you can have many online acquaintances, and also some very deep friendships. I've developed deep friendships via online. I do think it can make the world a better place. we are learning via the net how much we have in common. We are awesome, we humans, and social networking is bringing us together in a good way.

yea it really works.Having a friend through internet is really a great feeling because even when you're just sitting in front of your laptop or computer, you will gain friends and maybe also you can hang out with them soon.

Ask yourself one simple question - would you like 500 online friends?
If you answered yes, you don't know what real friendship is!
If you answered no, look to see how many facebook friends you have, and find out if you are a liar or not!
No, it doesn't work.

I think it depends on the person. I know that for me it would not work. Because it annoys me that I can't see their immediate actual reaction when I'm chatting to someone. Let alone that everyone can say anything about them on the Internet, so they could even be some perverts my grandfather's age - who just collect the info I share with them to stalk me... which is not a good thing as a vulnerable weak girl.
But there are more trusting people than me, who have had success with online friendships.
