My GF Who is Living with Cancer and I Plan

to go out tonight. We have both been a bit depressed, especially as another friend of ours has developed secondaries and we thought that she was clear. My GD has stage 4 cancer and it is in her lymph nodes and in her adrenal glands. She needs more chemo and then radiation and God alone knows where the money is comng from as we don't. She called last night and suggested that we to the movies tonight as it is two for one night As I don't have the twins, I readily agreed and she said that she is going to eat popcorn and ice cream and other forbidden things and maybe afterwards she would enjoy a cold beer. I thought what the heck - or words similar to that. I mean seriously? Does it matter now what she eats or if she wants to taste something then why stop her? Not me. I have a bottle of champagne that was waiting for a moment like this and have put it to chill. She can have a couple of glasses before we go and that will make her happy So, my plan is to take her to supper afterwards and then take her home and she can finish the champagne. What do you think? Is it a good plan to go against all her doctor's advice on how she should live?

I hope you girls have a great night! My FIL was diabetic, but towards the end we stopped caring about what he ate. If he wanted a candy bar.. so be it. Of course there was no treatment plan for his disease, he had other conditions that stopped him from being able to get treatment for the leukemia.

I have the same attitude as you. A drink or ice cream is no going to change anything at this stage for her as she needs a miracle

She might as well enjoy the rest of her life while she can.

Such a beautiful evening that will be cherished by you both, I'm sure. Keep her warm and make sure she isn't standing for too long and goes home to sleep when she needs...but as far as food goes then go crazy. Have the best time

I hope you two go out and have an excellent evening. Your girlfriend could do with some happiness and enjoyment. I think that life can be tough so you could both do with a wonderful time out. Good luck.

Thank you so much. she is bubbly so it will be good. She is not in pain as such - such awful fatigue sometimes

Pah, if I had stage 4 cancer, I'd be living it up too! Why be any more miserable than you have to be?

hi dear Cynthiann I hope you had a great night and you had the bubbly before getting to the movies like planned. I think its no biggie to go against the doctors orders about forbidden treats here and there. I am diabetic and I also have forbidden treats...... mainly when I am not in a good mood.

same as my Heart Mom Anne who battled cancer but lost the second time around. I hope she is strong enough to keep up that battle for her life.

I thought i'd responded to this but looks like I didn't. Sounds as if you both had a good time and needed it. Keeping the spirits up is just as important as any of the doctors advice.

If I were in your shoes I would be encouraging her to get out there and have fun. She is at a point in her life that unfortunately there are not going to be many more good days when she will feel up to doing something like this.

I think that when the worst happens, and you try to grasp at the memories we leave behind, it's the times like these that we would remember the most! Not all the struggle that went through battling this terrible disease, but the times that we stood up (or maybe let go a bit) and enjoyed life for a little bit. I hope you two had fun!

I am not sure if I am saying the right thing. If this is going to make her suffer later of which I am not sure then, well, this is not the best thing for her. But if there is no suffering go ahead and have a blast. She needs it.

Thanks for sharing, at times we have to go against doctors advise in the interest of a patient, we need to keep her happy.

I agree and with more chemo and radiation to come she needs calories even if they are empty ones

Its quite confusing really. those things can make her happy but can also make her condition worse. But, maybe you can let her have whatever she likes to eat or drink just for this moment. We can only hope it wont affect her condition that much.

Her cancer is stage four and spreading so her outlook is not good at all. I will give her what she wants to eat as it cannot harm her now
