Hi ?????, I am not referring to anything now, just saying from my though - it is light blue. As we think, it is the mix of all atmospheric particles formed and when it extends to a the large thick wide area, it turns into bluish and and keep changing due to different phenominon happening around. Hope you have referred somewhere and share it here for everyone's knowledge update. Regards

Yes, light blue, dark blue and black etc. See, now I am stting on the 24th floor of this building and I can see the strong orenge/red colured sky on the west side while the sun is just gone down to the sea... The whole western side is so bright with red and orenge mix by a shade of white and blue on the other side. So, beyond backward, the dark is starts as the night keep starting. I think there is no static colour as you said. If we see for a shorter span of area, there is no colour at all. The defintion of sky itself is consists of a wast area and when it reflects with different phenominons in the atmosphere, the colour changes and what all such things are happening around momentarily.

In my idea sky has no color but maybe is something like so light blue and for some reflection during day we see it blue and at night is dark blue I do not think if it is black at night... but so dark blue... just my thoughts...

The sky in itself doesn't have any colour. It is the colour of light emitted from the sun that we observe in the sky. At night, there is no illumination from the sun and so the sky looks black at night. But during day time if the atmosphere is clear the sky appears to be blue and it is due to Rayleigh scattering of light. As light moves through the atmosphere, it hits the gas molecules which are much smaller than the wavelengths of the different colours of light. The subsequent result depends on the wavelengths of the different colours present in the light. Most of the longer wavelength lights comprising of red, orange & yellow light are affected little & pass through the gas molecules. But the shorter wavelength lights like the blue are mostly absorbed but very soon the absorbed light is given off by the gas molecules. The given off blue light is then radiated in all the directions & gets scattered all around the sky. As a result, some of this scattered blue light always enters the eye in which ever direction the eye is fixed towards the sky & so the sky looks blue. The molecules of oxygen & nitrogen in the atmosphere are mainly responsible for this scattering of light which occurs as the electromagnetic field of the light waves induces electric dipole moments in the said molecules. Rayleigh scattering of light can also occur when light travels in transparent solids & liquids but is most prominent in gases.

well, literally based on what i saw, it has different colors depend on the weather. when the sun shines, the color of it is blue and there is white puffs like cotton in it as well. if we have a bad weather, the color of it is gray, maybe because of the water that will landfall. sometimes, too, it has a blackish color as well more if there is a storm. :) hehe

you just look at the sky and said to me about the colour you see, thank you anyway and have a good day

The real color of it would be black, because without the reflection of light in to the earth it wouldn't be blue.

are you sure about that?

I thought if sky has no colour , and it is just a celestial dome, and with sun reflection it appears like if it is blue..!

The sky itself has no colour of its own but it looks blue in a clear atmosphere due to Rayleigh scattering of light.

I am agree with you, I also think that sky has no colour, it is just a celetical dome and it appears blue during day time by sun reflection and appear dark at night while sun is not there..

The sky appears blue because short wavelengths (the blue end of the spectrum) are absorbed and scattered whereas longer wavelengths are more inclined to pass straight through. This means that, wherever you look (when there are no clouds), you see the scattered light which is blue. See this explanation: http://www.sciencemadesimple.com/sky_blue.html Only actual light sources can have 'real' colour. The colour of everything else depends on exactly how it reflects/transmits and absorbs the different wavelengths contained in white light.

I think sky has no colour but maybe cause of some reflection or sun's rays it appear blue and when sun is not there, it look like so dark blue..

Didn't we learn this in science class........ black is the absense of light and certain colours are the colour that reflects. White reflects all colours

yes white reflects all colours.... but finally what is the sky colour? I mean white of black then? we are discussing here about 3 clolours, black, white and blue.... thanks...
