My throat is so sore

I think it's the pollen. I was out sweeping the carport and driveway the other day and its loaded with pollen still just like it was then. S was sick the other day. My daughter has a sore throat and earache and it hurts me to swallow. Nothing seems to help. I have Halls Cough Drops. I also have tea. I don't have any honey but may get some tomorrow. How do you deal with sore throat induced by allergies?

If you do not have honey, you can consider boiling ginger slices and brown sugar soup. It is both soothing and rejuvenating, it is especially good for womenfolks during menstrual pains. Also since you have a reaction with pollen, please avoid buying pollen honey or consume pollen honey capsules. I read that it is not suitable for asthmatics, too. Do be careful here. I hope you get well soon.

If you are so sensitive, then I would advise that you put on a face mask when you go outdoors during spring and summer. It is really better for you here by managing yourself to adapt to the environment. Do take care of yourself and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Since you are asthmatic, Chinese have a very effective method of managing your condition and that is drink hot water. Occasionally, add a few slices of ginger to drink and you will find it helpful for your wheezing during bedtime.

Pollen sets off my asthma. I took my inhaler and my breathing treatment but tonight I'm wheezing. The pollen is so much you can see it blowing in the breeze in the day time. I hope to be better tomorrow. One year I was very sick. I had asthmatic bronchitis and my inhalers weren't helping. My daughter made me coffee and gave me straight honey to eat. I got better. Don't know if it was a placibo effect or that it really helped but I did get better that one time.

How about just putting some ice on your throat?

I don't swallow cold from ice. It's very uncomfortable. Putting ice on the neck wouldn't help the inflammation. It hurts to swallow.

All I know is that when I was in the hospital and my throat was killing me they put a big bag of ice on my neck and the pain went away.

Hello my friend, sorry to hear about your sore throat, I am not sure if it is available where you live, but I swear by chloroseptic, it comes in a spray and you spray the back of your throat two times, during regular intervals in the day, and it works a treat, it gets to work straight away.

Yes Wolfie, we have that in green and red. It numbs the back of the throat too. I spoke to my daughter and asked that we stop tomorrow at the pharmacy so I can get some.

I gargle with salt water many times a day. Also use a nettie pot with saline solution for congestion. My sore throat is caused by mouth breathing and the post nasal drip, so a decongestant helps me. Also as just mentioned above, Chloroseptic works right away and I've used many times in the past.

Good advice here. What is a Nettie pot? Is it like a vaporizer?

I know a lot of people I work with are having the same issues. The weather has been going up and down. My head is just pounding from the change in the weather lately.

Yes the weather was up and down. Now it's warm all the time and yellow pollen is all over.

You should have a nice cup of lemon hot tea with honey. That will make your throat feel a lot better. Even without honey, lemon tea is just amazing for a sore throat. A cup of that will have your throat feeling much better as soon as you drink it.

Hi PQ! Oh, hope you feel better soon! It's already been suggested, but I do the lemon and honey thing too. I hear it is preferable to get local honey - because then it would be from bees from the area . . . so you can build up immunity to the pollen and things that may bother you at home. I try to drink lemon/water every morning and then with lemon later on in the day - makes me feel like I'm "insured" - hee hee.

Hi M2S! That's a good idea about local honey. I read about that before.

If the cause of your sore throat is the allergy then take your medication for your allergy. You can soothe you throat through gargling lukewarm water or having a menthol medicated candy like strepsils. Avoid sweets because it can irritate your throat. Hope you get well soon.

What a coincidence. I too have sore throat right now. Yesterday I didn't have a voice and now I don't know if I can even speak a word. I drank a glass of hot lemon juice last night. I think anything warm or hot gives sore throat a healing effect. I also will gargle with warm water mixed with a spoonful of salt.

I just went to the doctor the other day it was so bad. He gave me a shot and three prescriptions. It was like having bronchitis, pneumonia, the flu, a cold and a severe allergy attack all at the same time. Absolutely horrible! I am feeling a little better but not yet myself. This is day 4 on the meds and I have 6 days to go for the antibiotics. The pollen here is so bad you think someone painted everything; every single night green. I can't go out on the deck because everything is completely covered. Hoping to get the boys to clear off the furniture and sweep up the deck this coming weekend. I did all the normal things but nothing was working so I gave in and went to the doctor. My treatments work when I dose them out to the kids but surprise, surprise they don't seem to do anything when I follow my own instructions. Go figure! Anyway, I think it is going to be a wicked spring and summer this year...just a feeling...and they usually are right on target to.

Recently the weather is so terribly hot and warm. Even during the night, the surrounding releases heat which causes so much uncomfortable. Now i am also having sore throat. I am trying to drink more water, and try not to sleep late. Also, drinking some honey will help. Wish you speedy recovery.

This was a recipe I heard from an elderly lady years ago hot water and lemon 2tablespoons, honey enough to sweeten, and ginger 1 tsp or use fresh which is even better, I had told my brother about this years ago he swears it works, I like the natural remedies so much better hope you feeling better real soon.

My dad used to make a cough syrup out of honey and lemon. He never put ginger in it though. It sounds good.

ginger will cure your sore throat fast. just boil a slice of ginger in a cup of water and drink this. it has an unsual flavor and if you're not used to it you may need to add a small amount of honey or sugar.

It won't cure you of your sore throat, but if you do not already have some you might think about buying locally grown honey. Eating honey grown locally is supposed to help us with our allergies. And if you don't normally eat anything with honey you can always use honey as a sugar substitute. Like if you use an artificial sugar substitute like stevia you might as well just use honey. My dad once put stevia in a smoothie someone told him how to make. I told him next time (since sugar substitutes have been linked to some unhealthy things) just drop in some honey and it would taste the same.

There is over the counter stuff that helps. I would drink the tea several times a day. And get that honey.

Our front porch is loaded with pollen and Keith told me this afternoon before he left for work that he would like for me to sweep it off. LOL! That is a serious joke right there! Even though I am taking my OTC allegy medication, I am not crazy enough to go out and dance around in the stuff and stir it all up. When my throat hurts I drink warm tea sweetened with honey and use cough drops.
