I mentioned before that I am going through boxes of personal papers and letters and hundreds of photos. I am making a collage of family photos to frame.
So I picked out one and took it to my son to show him.
Look at this I said, I cannot believe it!
He looked. Nice photo of you and Rachel on the beach when she was a toddler.
Look at the bathing suit I was wearing, I said.
Nothing wrong with that, he said.
There is, I replied. Why? he asked
Because I still have it, I replied. I still have a bathing suit in my drawer that is 27 years old!
Seriously mother? he said. Seriously? And then he laughed and laughed. I took it out to show him and he laughed harder.
Bin it, he advised. And so I threw it into the garbage bin.
Now seriously () do you possess an itme of clothing that is older than this?

This is embarrassing, because I have a swimsuit I think is older than yours, maybe closer to 30? I don't wear it much, so it is still in good condition..

Considering how old it is, I wonder who would buy it. I mean, it is definitely for a younger woman, but out of style, you know what I mean? But garage sales are coming up, but only if I have time, I'd like to just relax before summer classes start.

I donate mine and the kids. Don't have anything worth selling since they wear it until it's worn out, holey, stained etc.. and a lot of their clothes are already second hand (or at least passed down from oldest to youngest until it doesn't fit anyone anymore).

Probably have at one time.
I may still have it. I've been given hand me downs from my great grandparents before. I think I once wore a little terry cloth addition to a bathing suit at one time that my grandmother had once wore back in the 80's.

I should think that you will hang onto those as mementos. To think that I could be your grandmother - am old enough to be so

I' sorry you did not get to keep the christening outfit. That would have been great to hold on toI do have a cream linen dress that is about 14 years old. But it is a style that does not get out of date. Need to lose 12 pounds to fit into it though

I'd probably still fit on that but I would not dare wear it again. I am not comfortable wearing it especially now coz of my "not-so-great" figure. I fear that people might just flee from the beach!

Wow 27 years huh?? That's amazing. Sometimes you just want to cling onto these little things that take you back in time, in your happy moments... I have my school uniform that I have saved from my school days, Its been 14 years. Back in school we had a ritual of writing on uniforms on the last day of school, so I have the uniform where most of them have written how much they will miss me and stuff... Anyways That is one of the reason I can never get rid of my it, cause it reminds me of my carefree days....

Wow Ramya, Carefree school days for sure. You got that right! Too bad we thought they were the worst days of our lives when we should have been ravishing every moment. Or am I one of the few who had it wrong?!

No, you must keep the school uniformas it is a precious memory. My problem was that it wasn't until I looked at the photo of me wearing it did I realise how old it was

I thought it was nice that you felt able to show your son the offending bathing suit! I am pretty sure I don't have anything to compete with 27 years, that would make me 14, mind you after moving 6 times in a short space of time I have learnt to purge regularly and most of my old stuff went to charity some years back. It's good that you can both laugh about it, where do the years go?

Oh gosh - I don't know where the years went and I wish that I did. No way we can get them back. I do clean out regularly but had just forgotten how old it wactually was

Several. There is my mom's wedding dress, mine, the bridesmaid's dress from my sister's wedding, a purple dress that I will never fit into again, but I love it so much and maybe one of the girls will want it. I think that's pretty much it...

Oh., yes, I do have my wedding dress somewhere. I should unearth it amongst all the contents of the boxes. Actually, I love dresses from the 30's and 40's so much. I would love to be slim enough to wear clothes like those

Hello Cynthiann I´m very glad to read you again. It´s very funny what happened to you. I don´t have so eldest clothes with me. I did a lot of cleaning when we got married 16 years ago. The eldest things I have is my wedding dress and maternity clothes (just in case) (joke).
Most of time I give my clothes on charity.
Blessings Cynthiann... dainy

When my dad was a single father, my younger brother and I used to stay at a day care center while he worked. The owner made each of us shirts with out names on them. Then dad met my future step mom. That was early 80s She kept my shirt for many years until my first born arrived then passed it on to me for keeps. My girls each wore the shirt when they were smaller, but later I donated it to Goodwill.

No I can seriously say I don't own anything that old. What I do twice a year is clean out my closet of things that I know I won't wear again. I either give it away or to the clothes bins for people who need. When I was working I was constantly buying new outfits and weeding thing out that were worn to many times. I may have some jeans that are about 15 years old and I know I have one T-shirt from a cruise that I took back in 1995 that is now almost 18 years old. I use it now to do yardwork in it. Its probably on its way out next time I clean the closets out.

I have old clothes, but I don't think I have anything that is more than 27 years old!
I have collared shirts that I wore in university that I still have in my closet. They still fit me (now that tight shirts are back in style)! I remember wearing them after I graduated, wearing them a few times early in my career, and wearing one to mass just a few weekends ago!
They should be retired though!

, I am laughing with you because I also still have the same bathing suit that I bought before I got married and I have been married for going 24 years. I still wear it too, but it is starting to get worn out a bit. I do have another one too that is only about 10 years old, I alternate them when I am on vacation. I had also kept my bathing suit from when I was a teenager, it is still up in my drawer but I can not fit in it, as I was like a size 0 until I was about 20 years old.

Oh, why you throw it to garbage bin? Is it already broken? If not, you could at least try to sell it or even give it to charity (but of course if that bathing suit is still nice and good also not broken yet). I have clothes from when I was toddler, the dress is very cute and still good even after 20 years old, so I give it to my niece. She love it.

you should have at least tried it on and see how far it would reach. or showed it to rachel and your grandkids!
a photo would have been even better (with or without you in it). it'll trigger memories of past swimsuits and maybe even wardrobe malfunction!

I have a jacket that my husband's brother sent him during the Korean war. I also have shirts that I kept of my husbands because I thought some day he might be able to wear them again but even if he lost all the weight he gained I don't think he would wear dress shirts again.

I probably would have done something with them already but since they are my husbands I will keep them. I do have a few things I have kept but am slowly releasing them as I know my daughters aren't going to want them.
