In some government and private establishment toll free numbers were effective but not all establishment has toll free numbers, it make the process systematic, imagine a place with out priority numbers it is so messy people will not wait for there turn.

I feel for you as I had the same feeling when I tried to contact one of the free helpline service of the government.
It really seems they just serve as props sometimes.
What is annoying is that an automated machine answers most of the inquiries from customers.
This I hate much because you cannot express your needs or problems right there and then.
Sometimes you are diverted to different channels before you reach a human operator
This really sucks

In my opinion these "Helplines' are helpful within their limitations. After computerization we get many of the inquiries replied fast and lead us to "Sections" where further actions are to be dealt.

I know some of the help line services work well. But a very few toll free help line services work well. In my state, toll free help line for railway enquiry won't work at all, at the same time paid help line service for the same service work well

I think most of the helpline toll free numbers do work and they are free to call. I think it is good to have toll free numbers and helpline numbers for various departments that would help to assist people and give them information.

I use them now and then but most of the time I can find much of what I need online, but it is good to know that if the internet were to fail that they still pay people to be by the phones for a helping hand.

Yeah i can understand your situation and in fact even i have always faced the same issue at times when we do not get any kind of response from the toll free numbers but i have observed that if we call them within a stipulated them then they do respond our issues.
