Barbecue ideas

I'm having a barbecue and want to get some ideas on what I should make. From what I should grill to sides to go with it. Don't let difficulty in making a dish stop you from suggesting it, if I don't know how to make it, I can learn pretty easily. I love to cook and love to learn new things.

I know there is a proper name for it, but for now I'm just going to call it "Asian Beef on a Skewer". They are pretty easy to make, quick to grill, and get eaten so fast that you wish you made more. I starts with flank steak cut 1/4 inch thick (easier to cut if you put it in the freezer for 15 minutes before slicing). Put it in a large zip-lock bag topped with a marinade of Hoisin sauce, soy sauce, BBQ sauce, ginger, and garlic. Mix well and refrigerate overnight. The next day, thread the meat onto the skewers and discard the marinade. Cook over high heat for 3 minutes a side. Make sure you keep them away from your guests until you are ready to serve or there will be none left for you. Yes they are that good.

I think it's called Sh*t on a Shingle or S.O.S. skewers..they can be with many different ingredients and great for parties

a good coleslaw is always great at a barbecue. I keep mine super simple and buy pre-shredded cabbage, then make a dressing of mayonaise, apple cider vinegar and some sugar (proportions of each adaptable to whether you like your cole slaw sweeter, tangier, or creamier) and celery seed. (this is a MUST.....it is what makes it great!)...this can be made and eaten right away, but personally i think it is better if you make it the day before and let it sit in the fridge overnight.

You are absolutely correct fruitcakeliz. Coleslaw is a must for any BBQ. Also your recipe is just like mine. You said to use pre-shredded cabbage. I think you may have meant the pre-shredded coleslaw mix (cabbage, red cabbage, carrots). Instead of using all mayonnaise, I use 1/2 mayo and 1/2 coleslaw dressing. And letting it sit overnight in the fridge is a must. Now you made me hungry.

Banana boats. Slit a banana down the middle, put in marshmallows and chocolate chips, wrap in foil and put it on the grill until the chocolate melts. We like grilled corn on the cob and potato or macaroni salad for the sides.

We like vegetable kebobs. Any veggie will do but I especially like carrots and onions. Also broccoli.

ohh, i thought of another idea. If you want to serve a main dish/protein besides chicken or beef, i recommend sweet and sour salmon kabobs. Good sized cubes of boneless, skinless salmon, alternated with chunks of sweet onion, green pepper and pineapple chunks. Grill them, turning on all sides until cooked through, then brush them with sweet and sour sauce for the last minute or so (if you add the sauce too early it burns and gets bitter tasting) sooo yummy!
