Unseasonal Wear

For those of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere we are experiencing a seasonal regular called 'Summer'. I have noticed that it happens very year and usually heralds some sartorial adjustments to our usual garb of anoraks and pullovers. In Summer we don plastic macs or other lightweight rain wear; rubber boots, which we call 'Wellingtons' after the footwear made famous by the late Duke, and frequently carry an unfurled umbrella still damp from the last downpour. This year however, something rather strange has happened: we have had more sun than rain. I have been seen rushing to menswear shops to purchase linen shirts and lightweight shorts. My sandals and old faithful Timberland deck shoes have been rushed into service; all in all, it's been jolly pleasant here in Blighty. Typical that nobody thought to tell us beforehand.

This Summer has been as strange as our last winter was...hot cold hot, war. chilly cold warm I've given up and just left out the winter wear to cover the light shirts and the shorts.

When I was Blighty late last summer the only time I had to unfurl my brolly was in Scotland....and only for a few minutes. And I never did need to purchase Wellies which is a shame because I was SO looking forward to taking a pair home as a souvenier! lol

It took to the end of July to finally hit the 100's here in Texas. We have had a cooler than normal summer up until then. Of course, after the very wet May we had, it has now stopped raining all together!

I think mother nature is having PMS. Weather everywhere has been erratic. Wet, wet spring, delayed summer here after 4 years of extreme drought. The last week there's been NO wind when I get up in the morning. There's usually a breeze early in the morning and I can open windows and doors and enjoy the cool. I've had to turn the A/C on first thing when I get up. That's scary. It heralds hail storms when we finally do get more precipitation.

I hope that the weather will have settled down by the time that I get to Texas in October! Warm and wet is good. Stormy with hurricanes much less so!

We have had a long drought here - we know nothing about rain boots nor rain wear! In fact, what is rain??? I think we've had our summer gear on since January. So no more flowy, summer dresses and stilettos?

Well, I'm just glad I'm not one of those people who changes the wardrobe or gets new stuff every season! It's been lovely but here in Middle Earth, we've been purchasing jumpers and socks after the occasional half day of warm!

It has been cooler and rainier here compared to most years. Of course not this week. I have a whole clothing store in my house it seems. The weather cannot stump me.
