He changed the baby's diaper where?!?

My youngest son and I went to the mall yesterday. We normally go for mother/son time and not to shop! As we hadn't been there in a while, I figured it'd be a good place to spend the day with him (well, actually it was evening, but you get the idea). Anyhow, we had been walking around for a while when we decided to stop and watch the bungee attraction that they have there. But then my eyes started to wander... And they caught sight of a man sitting in a chair changing (his?) baby's diaper! Yep, right there! Smack dab in the middle of the mall! Now I can understand that the baby needed to be changed. But right out there in the open like that, in front of everybody and anybody to see? Why not be discreet and use the bathroom instead? After all, the mall has what is known as a family lounge, which is perfectly suited for that kind of thing. I've got to say, after seeing that, I'd be wary of sitting on any of those comfy looking chairs! Have YOU ever changed a baby's diaper like that? lol

I always went to the bathroom to change my kids diapers, I never did that in public for several reasons.

A lot of men just have an immediate response to a need.....wink, wink, nudge, nudge. That's why God invented women........we bring a sense of decorum to life! lol

There may have been an issue with the family lounge or he may have had a child on the bungee equipment I would try for privacy if at all possible and I would make sure to put a changing mat down, and disinfect the surface where the changing took place.

I always changed my kids in a restroom, as I would be to embarrassed to change them out in public. Others don't need to see that, even though it would be a baby. I am a private person, so things like that would bother me to see someone doing that out in public. I certainly wouldn't want to see it done, let alone smell the diaper afterwards. Now, that is just my opinion, and others will feel differently. i just feel that common sense and common courtesy would tell that man, to do in private and not in fromt ot other people. Take care, and have a great day.

Last June I had four grandkids with me. We were at the zoo and had exited. We were in the parking lot. I put a blanket on the ground and changed the baby there as he was soiled and having a problem with a rash.

@GardenGerty Not on the pavement but on a grassy shaded area at the back of the van. Also had to change him in the back of the van at a park, as all they had were porta potties.

@GardenGerty An added issue we have is that the "baby" we have to change is now 8. Finding a safe place to change him, even in some bathrooms, is hard. He sometimes has to stand while I try to work it out and standing isn't always easy for him. It can be so frustrating. And the looks some people give us when I walk an 8 yr old boy into a ladies room is always fun.

I admit it, I've changed diapers in some crazyplaces. Sometimes the act of getting them to a bathroom just isn't possible...

I can understand when it isn't possible, but there were restrooms throughout the mall...

I always go to the bathroom to change the kids. I don't think I want people seeing my kids junk exposed like that. There are too many pervs out there in the world. Not to mention it is kind of gross. I would not want to look up and see someone else changing a diaper in the middle of the mall.

@sacmom Now I will admit that I will take the kids out into the parking lot and change the kids in the truck if I have to. But that normally means no one else can see it.

I've always done it in the bathroom, the family lounge, or even the car or right in the stroller (it's possible when they are super little). I never did it in the wide open for privacy reasons and I figured people wouldn't appreciate it. Common courtesy type of thing. I remember one mom did it on the carpet right in the middle of a kids club show - that wasn't exactly cool!

Just like you i would be changing the baby's diaper in the comfort room . Not like that in the open because they might think you are being unhygienic .

I think for me, it would depend how hygenic the rest room was. They didn't exist when my kids were young so you had no choice as to where to be and so I have changed nappies in public. I would go to the rest room now, but only if they have proper baby changing facilities and are clean.

I rarely go to the mall, so I can't say I have seen this before. But it doesn't shock me in any way. I do agree they do have washrooms for that purpose, we don't just squat and go do we?. But again some just the convenience, and most don't care as it's a baby.

Personally, I would look for somewhere private, but then again I have seen some bathrooms, that are not in the best condition. So, I'm kind of sitting on the fence with this one!
