Not the End of the World but....

I sometimes us the WhatsApp mobile communication system to 'speak' to family and a single close friend. The friend is very close but she's not family, and whilst I will tell her most things, there are certain family confidences that are, well, just for family. Tonight the Child sent me a chat thing from the app which came up on my computer, but I replied via my cell phone. The subject is something quite intimate regarding another family member. Nothing hugely earth shattering but a little sensitive. Suddenly I realised that I'd added it to the bottom of my last message to my friend. I quickly sent another note to her apologising. I know that she's seen it but hasn't responded. Maybe she won't and actually it's OK if she does. But I wondered if I am the first person to mess up messages and send them to an unintended recipient? Have you ever done such a thing?

I am extremely cautious as that can lead to unnecessary complications.

"Unnecessary complications" is a nice way to put it. I hope I never end up doing something like that.

Yes, I have - and recently. It's something I actually wrote about at the other place. I don't know how it happened (and I really don't), but I sent my friend a text message that said "Poo". I was mortified and quickly sent a text of apology - she just thought it was funny. In any case, I'm glad it was sent to a friend and not someone else!!

I do not use those apps but the potential is there in many other circumstances to share unintentionally. If I have done so, I do not know when.

Yes I have and I am aware of it just as I press send! Like you, nothing really earth shattering but several times a tad embarrassing. We have a whatsap family group thingie and it is good to keep the family connected as we are in three different countries. Strictly family though - no close friends at all.

I have several times. Nothing disastrous, but it is easy to do.

My best friend likes my older brother. However, I don't think she is suit for my brother. She saw my text to my brother. Anyway, we are still best friends.

It happens a lot, I believe everyone has a similar experience. I had so many messages sent to the wrong friend/boss/family....some of which were really awkward lol.....we have a group for work in whatsapp, and every once in a while we get a "I love you babe" "oops..." so its quite common

Since I only have my computer, I've never done this, but I've received messages on my FB account that were obviously intended for another person, and almost immediately received an apology and explanation from the sender.

Ha ha Pikey - see how funny it is when you do it in real life. When you talk in Romanian to your British friend and in English to your Romanian friend - happens with knowing more languages and traveling with a mixed group :)

I get more of those than I have ever sent. My mother in law is a little tech illiterate but thinks she can do a lot of it much better than she can.

I think all of us who use some sort of virtual communication system have done this. I just hope when I will do this again, I will not send too intimate details to an unwanted person.
