Here I am, after the squilllion years of work, I'm 57, returning to school! Not as a teacher but as a student. I'm doing a postgraduate qualification that will take two years part time. At a time in my life when most people are looking forward to retirement, I am about to embark on 24 months of study and frankly I'm anticipating it with a mix of pleasure and dread. Will I be up to study, let alone writing essays etc. It's all quite scary. One thing I'm sure of, I bet there's someone even older than me on the course!

@p1kef1sh It will not be a walk in the park but you are interested in doing this - not being forced and it gives you pleasure! Go for it!

I had just the same feelings when I started a Computer Studies course when I was 48. Two (or was it three?) years later I graduated with an HND. I can't say that I was a brilliant student and academic work certainly didn't come easily after a break of 30 years but I did graduate and I thoroughly enjoyed it (mostly). I also found it a lot easier than I thought it would be to mix with people so much younger than me.

You will do great. And you have the advantage of life experience and learning that the young folks lack. You have a good head for it.

I wouldn't dare do that here. It would probably put me $60,000 in debt...

HA HA HA! Not in my town you're not Pikey :D Come over at University Campus Suffolk where you would be just a late bloomer, but not an old one ! One of my student work collegues, a fellow library assistant is a 3rd year part time English Student, but we have seen students with white hair and many rinkles which we safely assumed are over 65 !. I have seen plenty pensioneers as well among fellow students, so I don't think you are old at all by these standards. The average student here is about 28, with the under 21 being under 50% of the total student body. Hope this has cheered you up !

Well then you're an ol' pro with shooting spit wads or flying folded paper planes! Just make sure the teacher isn't around when you pass those notes - a naughty student might get detention!

I feel old at almost 30 wanting to go for my BA. But when I was going for my AA, I saw plenty of older people in my classes, so it's not taboo.
