What makes a QUALITY discussion?

Is it the subject? Is it the style it's written in? Is it the originality? The length of the post? The relationship you've built with the starter? How about all of the above? A quality discussion is one that encourages interaction. It doesn't matter what you're writing about. myLot is a diverse community with members from all around the world. myLotters are interested in a wide variety of subjects, and each and every myLotter brings his or her unique experiences to every discussion they participate in. And if your discussions aren't getting the sort of response you're expecting, well... it never hurts to get out there and make some new friends!

I believe that we can keep your definition of a "quality discussion" for the next edition of the dictionary of myLot. I do not expect any sort of response in my discussions. I have an opinion, but it can change if others' arguments are good. I have started serious discussions that became funny, and funny that became serious. It is always interesting to see how other members can perceive things differently, and it makes the best discussions : a discussion where everyone agree can have a lot of responders and can create a lot of interaction (by example, if I start one on a recent tsunami or earthquake, many will come to pray and pity the victims...) but has less interest for me than a discussion with 2 or 3 members sharing friendly and honestly different views and opinions on the same subject. When something like this happens, every member participating learns something and can make a better opinion on the subject. Quality is not quantity.

I love the fact that you're willing to consider others' opinions and rethink your own. I've seen discussions where a poster was unwilling to do that; they were right, and that was it. End of story. I don't consider that sort of thing quality because being so inflexible can work to the poster shutting down others' input. It's kind of off-putting to be told that your opinions on something don't matter. And I'm sorry that I haven't responded to your discussions recently. You always post such interesting and informative things. I just haven't been in the right frame of mind to take on responding to serious topics lately.

@yukimori Do not care about this, it is alright. The last ones were not intended to be very serious, although the door was opened also to serious responders, and I got some yesterday. Come when you want, like you want, with a picnic basket or a professor's gown, you are welcome.

I think that as the site grows again people will find others who have similar interests to discuss things with. It seems to take time. I know some people are wanting more in depth discussions so maybe a few of those will start.

Yeah, I'm still missing a few of the users I used to chat with on a regular basis. It's not going to be quite the same as it used to be, but as more and more users join or return we'll start seeing some really great discussions emerge.

It is difficult to attract responses sometimes no matter how interesting a topic could be having covered all the points enumerated by you. So write your mind, relax, have fun

@Analyst001 The time zone factor plays a role but myLot has a beautiful system where everything is available under different heads - 'Me'. 'People' and one can even go to profiles of those one is following or are folloers. You can also suggest though I do not resort to this. Just from today I also notice a new addition - 'You might also like this' Having said all that it is a matter of one's mood that sets the pace here.

My idea of quality is starting a discussion with more than a question. I have, however responded to those as I knew they were new users, and just don't understand how mylot works, or what constitutes a good discussion. What is a quality discussion to me, may not be to someone else. I like to make mine with substance, and that part is easy, butcoming up with an interesting topic is the hard part. I would rather post comments, until I can come up with an interesting topic that others would want to respond to.

@rosekiss I understand what you are saying. You have a very valid point. I have a hard time coming up with things that others might find interesting, so I rather just comment for the most part.

@TexanTornado I hear you, as when I do start discussions, I don't get all that many responses, so I just feel that my time was wasted. I wouldmuch rather post comments andresponses, then I don't have to worry about not getting any responses.

I agree.. Every discussion posted attracts some kind of interaction and yes that is the only way to know each other and make friends.

I love how you can pretty much write about anything, there are so many different people with a lot of interests, any niche topic can get at least someone that is interested in that too and lead to a great discussion

I think a lot of people who've joined recently would be surprised at the topics that can spark long discussions!

When I think of quality I think of the May tag washing machine. Could have been August tag but I guess they started the company in May? Maytag could be a family name. Quality on mylot discussions? Not sure, but the guy that fixes them is a lonely man.

The photo you add to the discussion is the most important thing. I always add quality photos to mine.

I love taking pictures, but I've never been one to add photos to discussions just for the sake of having pictures. For me, they have to be relevant to the discussion.

I don't think that a quality discussion is one that encourages interaction.there may be stupid things that encourages one .....obviously if he/she is stupid; it doesn't mean its a quality discussion.yes of course to be a good discussion, there should be interaction by most of the participants, but for me; to be a good discussion it should have deep thoughts and mature contents rather than just voluntary opinion having little relevance.

So if the subject of the discussion is stupid, that means the discussion itself is irredeemable?

Well even if the person puts forth stupid thoughts you could lift up the subject with your wise opinions - can't you?
