Have you noticed the "You Might Also Like" feature?

On the right hand side of a Discussion page I noticed this morning that we have a box entitled "You Might Also Like".
I'm not sure yet what drives it - whether it's tags, relevant words in the discussion or what - but it lists discussions from way back. It doesn't seem to appear (or at least it hasn't so far on this discussion) until there are responses.
If you've noticed it, how have you used it and did you find it interesting or useful?

You've figured it out for the most part. It's not completely random though.
Basically it will pull the 20 most recent discussions for any given tag (up to 5 tags x 20 discussions = 100 discussions) and randomly choose 10 from those.
I believe "myLot" is the only tag that is ignored for this particular feature since that tag gets used a lot.
It's still a work in progress, but the results are looking decent so far...

@thesids It looks as though you need to adjust your screen resolution It should be set to the optimum setting (or the highest your screen is capable of) for your monitor, as recommended by Windows in Display Settings. Mine is 1280 x 1024.

You might also try using the "Zoom" feature in your browser. Zoom out to like 80 or 90%, which will resize myLot only and not affect other websites or other applications on your PC like changing the screen resolution does.

I have seen it but I am not sure how it is generated because what you list that you see is not what I have listed there. Just one of the discussions in your list is on my screen under "You Might Also Like". Interestingly, I see "Some guy was talking" listed first. Is that taken from the fact that Some Guy Typing has commented? If it were generated by tags then we should get similar lists, right?

You would think so, wouldn't you. I'm guessing that it IS random but that the 'seed number' (the number chosen to start any random list of numbers) is based on something to do with the account of the person viewing. The discussion you mentioned was posted by @3SnuggleBunnies and one of the tags is 'features' (it happens to be about mobile phones).

@owlwings And now the list is all different. But that's a good thing, it means there's a large number of posts being featured in that list. Today I commented on a couple and liked another couple and followed some people even though they might not be here anymore. Maybe they will come back, who knows?

Yes, some of the posts can be quite old but, as people begin to use tags on newer posts, more recent discussions will appear.
There is something to be said for responding to older posts because there are still many people who used to be avid users of MyLot and have not heard that it is paying again. There are quite a few people who have returned just because they received an email saying that someone had responded to, commented on or even just 'liked' their old discussion.

It might have something to do with tags.

It's driven by the tags that have been used in the current discussion (see the response below by MyLotBugs). At first it was showing older discussions but, as people have started to post and use tags more recently, it is showing more of the more recent posts.
If you don't use any tags, it won't show up and it will only show once at least one person has responded to the discussion.

I did notice it! then I wondered how long it had been there without my noticing! I've used it once, but I know I really like the feature and used to use it a lot on the old mylot.

I just finished responding to one old discussion. This may be a way to begin bringing members back to see why they are getting responses and notifications. I chose a discussion with someone I had been following before.

I never really noticed those, but now that you mentioned them, well, there they are. I might go and comment on some of them, as yes it is good to revive old ones again. I had one of my old ones revived the other day, and it felt great that someone was willing to post to it, to get it started again. It is true, that possibly the users of those discussions may not be back yet, but once their discussions are commented on, they will get an email, and who knows but that they might just check it out and come back to stay.

It depends on the tags used and how many recent articles use the relevant tags. I am beginning to see recent articles more frequently now.
