Coming to think about health risk taking medications, they are not always worth the outcome, lately my husband has become very sick after years of taking lisiprinol, his doctor immediately took him off yesterday after my daughter went in with him, it seems he never took my husbands complaints serious , it had done him more harm than good. so now he has a new one to try , I looked it up and it also has some bad reviews, there must be natural ways to battle high blood pressure.

@granny2015 There are quite a few natural ways to take care of high blood pressure. I'm in my 60s and don't take medication for anything. I have arthritis but it hasn't bothered me in well over 15 years. I'm not sure if it's gone or just not bothering me anymore. I take several natural products for it. I firmly believe in natural remedies. I stay away from doctors as much as possible. Here's a very good site you may want to look at. They don't sell anything, it's just a natural remedy site with people talking about what works for them. I've found it very useful. earthclinic.com I hope you find something there that helps with your husband's high BP. Good luck.

My son is on a lot of medications (23 pills at bedtime) The one that really hurt him is called Keppra. It was great for controlling his seizures but was rotten to his quality of life. He was angry and sad. He had days of not being able to get out of bed. He was just so down. We started taking him off of it and the seizures increased but he started coming back to us. He started hugging more, talking more (he doesn't speak well but he sure tries now) and was just more Here. I know medications can really harm folks.

There are quite a few people online talking about epilepsy and vitamin B deficiencies. I don't remember what else I read, it was a few months ago. It also had something about artificial sweeteners. It might have been on the site I mentioned up above but I'm really not sure. It must be difficult for you and your son to deal with this. I wish I could tell you something helpful.

@deazil Thanks for trying... It is so hard to protect them when they are sick and all the doctors can do is shove poisons at them while telling you that the risks are smaller than the need.

@granny2015 The most common relative of our body in the modern world is blood pressure and sugar. They will come without an invitation. We must be very careful while using blood pressure medicine. Once we start using the medicine we have to continue for the rest of the period, so I feel we have to try to sort it out using natural remedies.

Absolutely! Personally, I have given up on taking pharma majority of the time, unless absolutely necessary and even then, I do a good bit of research. I have been studying natural and alternative medicine as a hobby for many years now, helping myself and friends, including pets, with ailments. Everyone's chemistry is different, so much like other medications, some natural medicines help and others are not as effective depending on the individual. Natural medicine is always worth a try. Most alternatives have very few if any side effects. Here is what I found recommended for high blood pressure... Being active, including some kind of breath control activity such as Meditation, Tai Chi, Yoga. "The results of a recent small study suggest that a daily practice of slow breathing (15 minutes a day for 8 weeks) brought about a substantial reduction in blood pressure." WebMD Supplement of coenzyme Q10 have shown promise. Most effective herbal and dietary aids are cardamom, garlic, hawthorn, basil, cat's claw, celery seed, oats, oolong and green tea, shiitake mushroom, and others! Some of these are very gentle and won't cause any interactions or side effects. Always be sure to check on interactions before taking these herbs if you plan to take more than one or if you are already taking some other medication. I wouldn't recommend taking all of them, but try one at a time to see if you see any difference within a week or two. I'm no expert. This is just a recommendation from my own experience through experimentation. Here is an abstract of an academic article you may find interesting about herbs for blood pressure and evidence from studies. Hope this helps!
Hypertension (HTN) is the medical term for high blood pressure. It is dangerous because it makes the heart work too hard and contributes to atherosclerosis (hardening of arteries), besides increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke. HTN can also ...

@Treesaver4future You're so right about natural remedies. It's a hobby of mine too! You mentioned Yoga and breathing. I've practiced Yogic breathing and there is one breathing exercise, slow breathing, as you said, but when done in a certain way I've lowered my BP to 98/54. I don't have high BP but was practicing the breathing for relaxation purposes and took my BP right before and after the exercise. The first (before) reading was 127/64. Not too sure about the bottom number. But I was so surprised to see how low the top number went. I had been doing the exercise for 5 minutes then stopping for 2-3 minutes then again for 5 minutes and on like that for about 20-25 minutes. It was quite surprising. It's so nice to find someone who is also interested in natural remedies.

One things I've learned in life we are all responsible for ourselves. We had to watch out for things like this and force the issue if the doctor doesn't listen. Natural way to battle High PB...sure- diet and exercise. but if he can't do that meds are the way to go. I take Benicar, been on it for 5 or 6 years w/o a problem.

I totally agree with you on medications and their side effects, some are worse than others. Some it takes a period of adjustment and the side effects subside some don't. The natural method I believe is the best, if you can afford it.

@Butchcass4 Natural remedies aren't always expensive. It's true that a lot of good quality products do cost more but there are still some that you can get at reasonable prices. Like organic apple cider vinegar isn't expensive. Also cayenne pepper is a very good natural remedy that doesn't cost much. But if you drink hibiscus tea for high BP that can be pricey. I try to look at it this way - I can spend a little more now on my health or spend a lot more in the future on medical bills.

Every medication has side effects - some worse than others. It's a question of balancing the good and the bad. Sometimes the meds can be more dangerous than the conditions they treat.

That is true, I tend to choose alternative medicine like changing my food. Alcaline food is good way to get rid illness and to stay healthy. Alcaline foods are more to eat raw vegetables and fruits

My brother took this medication for years but it always made him cough so much that he would gag. He saw a new doctor a few months ago and she told him that he needed to come off of it and changed his medication. Now, he has no problems.
