If we were smart we could learn from History but I guess we just don't take the time. If more people read about History maybe we could stop repeating the same mistakes over and over again. There is something to be learned from History.

History repeats itself. Most people fail to learn the lessons of history. We need to take a necessary actions to help prevent those events from happening again.

Very well said Miss Weng as history does repeat itself and most do fail to learn from the mistakes of the past.

Yes Rose there are many mean and hateful people that we should have learned a lesson from but haven't. Like how not to treat certain groups of people because of race, religion or what have you.

I like parts of history. I love old buildings and the stories they have. I love the history of people who made good changes to the world and why they did it. I am not into wars and politics of the past because nothing has changed too much, though I know a lot of it because it plays into a lot of my other interests.

Most of history plays into the old buildings and the stories behind them. Some have been bombed, some just torn down on a whim.

@TLChimes How terrible that the buildings have been ruined or destroyed in your city. People seem to have no sense of history when doing things like that.

History was one of my favorite subjects in school. I love History and now instead of reading I usually watch the History Channel which always has lots of interesting stuff. I could learn about it forever Marcy.

@TiarasOceanView Exactly - this is what I meant when I said - "She made things look so real" - on my response. Students of my times(when I was a kid and learning history) disliked reading the plain text. Today, History Channel, Some parts of Discovery too have made History look more interesting.

I had a 30 hour minor in History in college. Enough hours to have a double major, if I had a foreign language. So, I'm sure you can understand why I feel the same way. 70 years ago there was a terrible war that devastated a good part of Europe and large parts of Asia. Did we learn anything from that? Well, Israel is mass killing Palestinians, often in retaliatory actions of one person. There are people here that are killing other people because they don't have the "right" skin color, that seem to admire those who thought to exterminate whole groups of people that they deemed unacceptable. We need to rethink what is being taught in schools...

Elic, I agree with most of what you have said but I believe Palestinans started this killing of Isreaels not the other way around. People kill people because of their religion, their skin color and any other reason they can think of which needs to be stopped so we can all live in peace.

The more you read about history, and I mean the real history, you realize how stupid people were. And when you look at the world now, we are just as stupid and ignorant. Yes, we advanced in technology and science. But we are still barbarians. When will the human population wake up and learn.

Inertia, you make a good point. Yes we have advanced in technology and science but we have not learned to be a peaceful people. I don't know if we humans will ever wake up to the fact we need to be a peace loving population and not a war monguring population.

@inertia4 Money does make a person corrupt but I think there has to be a fault within some people as not all people are like that. It is a shame if you have to slave every day and still not have anything while someone else does nothing and has it all

@Marcyaz As long as there is money and a way to become powerful I doubt we will ever change. Life is supposed to be lived. Not slaved through. But money in itself is corrupt. That's why people are always looking for ways to earn. To stay afloat.

genesis domino
I think history is (or at-least is understood as) an Inevitable Pattern theinevitabledossier.com/us/content/view/42/57/ When people make history-changing decisions, they're hardly-ever thinking of "the needs of the many" but are usually only thinking about 'their own needs' (either immediately or in-the-distant-future). i.e. they may KNOW that a situation could be more-optimal if a decision-maker had been more-selfless; but they also know how they 'have to react' to actions in the current situation---"You got-ta go do-mi-no"

You are so right. I agree we can learn so much by looking back specially from our mistakes. History is valuable. The only problem I see with history is determining what actually happened.

@Marcyaz I like to know about history when it is told like a story. For exam purpose I hate it because it is very hard to remember the date, year and the period of the war as well as the name of the war or battle. You mentioned that to learn something, but I don't know the thing which, is called some.

@Marcyaz I have mentioned that as a story every one will listen, but if we have to prepare for the exam on the same history topic it will be boring with lots of dates and names to remember.

@VivaLaDani13 Speaking of history, at present there is a debate going on how Britons suffer from "historic amnesia". They are taught very little about their Colonial history and what they are taught is they are very proud of those things. The ugly picture is not known to many unless they take up advance history as subject later on. Personally, I don't believe one should hold the past against the present generation and at the same time, I think it is important to know about your own history...from where they came from. Here is some of the things they are not taught in school as per one side of the debate:
Over half of Britons are proud of their imperialist past – but how much do they know about it?

I like history, I always think they are nice stories to read. I remember reading every emperors in ancient China needed to read the history and the teachings, but there were still many emperors repeating the same mistakes. I guess some people just hardly escape from the traps.

That is exactly the main reason why we need to study history. It is not only about preserving historical accounts for records purposes. I could still remember my History teacher in high school. He asked why we need to study history. And the perfect answer we never made was to keep the same mistakes from happening again and again.

On the lighter sides - Of course, people have been learning from history. It is just that there is a saying - History Repeats itself. And that is what many people out there are trying to prove... The wars, the merciless barbaric killings, abuse, religion and what not. On the normal side: Yes, I loved to study history at school More so because of the wonderful teacher we had. She would make things look so real. As of today, I dont find much use of history in normal day to day life, but then, the fact remains - there is a wealth of things in History. And there are a lot of areas that are still so very relevant - it is wrong to have them in the History thing.
