Linking your facebook account with your mylot account

How many of you think this is a good idea? I for one don't think so. Facebook has so much drama going on that sometimes I will comment on something someone said there, but I don't want my opinion to get back to that person especially if it was unflattering. Of course I would never mention them by name or use the entire post because that would be plagiarism. But I have been known to show my contempt for their attitude. Anyway I talk about my family a lot on here and if my Facebook account was linked they would see all of that. Nope, don't want that happening either. So how would you weigh in on this?

I have no plans to link my myLot account to my Facebook account. myLot used to be my 'safe place' to come and have fun online. I'm really not friends with any drama llamas, and I try to watch what I say online since nothing's really private when you put it out here.
I've occasionally shared a few discussions from here with friends if the topic would appeal to them. A few knew what myLot was way back when, and they'd laugh at me for posting here so often. They didn't get that there was more to it than the earnings.

@yugocean There was a lot of talk about sticking around if myLot stopped paying for years before it actually happened. A lot of us said that we'd happily stay here. That was before all the spammers started being allowed to post, though, so it didn't actually come to pass.

Oh no, I would never ever link my Facebook with here - or any of these writing sites. I do a lot of venting and well, I write about the people who are there - ha ha. How embarrassing it would be for them to discover that I had been writing about them - and for me the writer too! Nope, I'm keeping both worlds separate - as far away as I can!!

That was my thought exactly. You can get a lot of good discussion material from some of the stupid stuff people say on Facebook. There are also some interesting stories and news-clips from around the world that show up there and can be turned into a proper discussion.

@much2say I agree! On one of the other sites I write on, I vent about work or family that is on my facebook. Soo if they got linked I may get in a wee bit of trouble.

MyLot appears to be trialling such a system, according to the error message I get when I post a discussion. The link to Twitter is already working, I believe. It may be suitable for some people and not for others. I would only share my posts with some people (I have used the FB feature which categorises friends into groups and I would usually share my posts only with certain groups).

I didn't know you could categorize your friends on Facebook. I can't even seem to get my photos in folders without re-posting them online. I really started with this smart phone business and Facebook near the beginning of this year so I'm not really sure what I'm doing on either one.

No linking for me.
I talk more freely about some situations here that I wouldn't on facebook because I want to keep peace. - My husband's family, and my Mother's family have done some not nice things that I have mentioned here but not there. But the things I've shared here would be things that I don't care if they find out about because it wouldn't change my thoughts on it. It just would cause drama for my husband which I try to avoid.

It wouldn't change my thoughts either but like you I would like to keep the drama down. On the other hand sometimes we need to talk to someone, anyone. This is a good place to do it and I have gotten some good advice at times on how to handle matters.

I do not have a Facebook account, so this really does not apply to me. If I did have one, I certainly would not link it here, though. There are too many people that want to be stupid in "real life", and I come here to have fun and escape the drama, so welcoming them to the playground does not seem like a good idea to me.

@yugocean Nope, I do not have an account with any of those. I like my privacy, and this is actually the only "social media" site that I am on.

@purplealabaster What is stopping you making fake account ?
Social media is an important thing when electronic and print media are showing paid news fake news biased news . We get real information in social media.

Whatever. My personal views - I might not be happy to link FB and MyLot but I have realized that it is always a good idea to put up your FB link somewhere - maybe on your profile or elsewhere.
I would not have been able to stay connected with my MyLot friends if I did not know at least some of the FB accounts. When almost all left MyLot, I was very very lonely (and I do mean it literally). Luckily, some had their FB locations mentioned on their profiles and I used those details to connect. Thanks a million to @PhredWreck for setting up the MyLot Alumini group where I could find many and connect with them.

I knew a few email addresses and a couple of people's real names and which ones had Facebook accounts so I was able to keep in touch a little. When I did get my Facebook account up and running I did a search for the one particular name that I had lost contact with. I actually found two separate people with that name on Facebook so I took the plunge and friend requested them both and messaged them that I had known them on mylot but was using a different name. The right one accepted and I haven't heard from the other one.

I don't link Facebook to mylot account. What I'm saying here reflect who I am, but sometimes I just don't feel like talking so much to my friends in real world, especially when I know they have different opinions than I have. I am open for opinions and discussions, but there are something when I have made up my mind, I'm unlikely to change them, especially I believe I'm doing good and the right thing. Some of my friends are too caring and they keep on advising me on not doing something. I understand their worries, but I hope they can respect my decisions too. I find it more freely to discuss such topics here, especially homeschooling and parenting, as people here are more respectful and they do not wish to change my mind. Moreover, I'm getting more supports about my homeschooling decision and parenting styles online here than from my real world friends.

Same thing. Rather not link my FB and myLot although I have nothing to hide. I do have my FB page link on my profile though.

@savak03 Well I thought it was a different kind of linking you're talking about. Like how other websites are linked to one account, i.e. Twitter and FB, or Instagram and FB... That doesn't seem to apply to myLot and FB but I get your point.
Some people don't bother with the profile links while others do but even so I'm fine with it.

@owstalaga No, mylot is offering to link the accounts like I have candy crush linked to Facebook I guess. I was just making the point that if you really wanted to keep those two separate it would defeat the purpose if you listed your Facebook account in your profile.
Come to think of it I should probably check my profile since I haven't looked at it since 2009. There's no telling what information is in there.

I wouldn't either, but mostly because there are people on my Facebook that I don't want to have that sort of insight into my life. I don't post a lot on Facebook these days, mostly I just post the kid's fundraiser things for band and some other non-important things.. but I don't want to let most of those people into my real life!

I can provide an argument for putting an FB link option as it might help in increasing the user count on this site. More users, more ways to interact.
On the flipside, it would be too cluttered with personal topics that not everyone might be interested in. That would be the crux of the argument against putting up an FB linking option.

FB and myLot are two separate entities each with a purpose that has nothing to do with each other. I agree with you.

I don't link facebook with anything. At one time I had my Twitter linked to Pinterest cause I needed to link one or the other. But, they opened it up so I don't have to have it linked anymore.
I really see no valid reason for doing so. Others may think so though.

I wouldn't want that to happen automatically, because some stuff I don't want posted to FB.

I saw that option, but usually what I have here as a discussion has no depth. (no offense meant to mylot). if I write a good article I post the link in my FB account, it is something to share with my friends and family, and something to be proud of.

Well not to offend anyone on here or anything, but I keep this site and my facebook separate because I have actual family and friends over there that I share things with that I probably don't say on here. Not that what I say over here or there is bad, just different.

Wel given that I just wrote part 1 of a short story on here, I might link my mylot to my facebook, just people can read my hort fiction... Anything to get my work more exposure. My other opinionated posts not so much...
