Discussions? How Many?

United States
August 23, 2015 5:31pm CST
Ok, I have always stated that I am not a writer, nor will I ever claim to be. There is a saying, 'Quality over Quantity'. Which I am a firm believer in, but when I lack some of the 'writing' skills, it makes the quality a little less. Anyhow, back to my questions. How many discussions do you start per day? Or perhaps a week? I prefer commenting, and having a few laughs on other people's discussion. However, I try to start at least 1 discussion per day, so I can feel like I am contributing to the community.

I tried to start one every day since the beginning of the month, but it is a bit too much for me and I have not started any today. On the old myLot I was starting maybe 2 per month, and I was mainly responding and commenting to others. And for the quality, I would not say that my discussions are quality discussions. My writing skills in English are limited, but as Coubertin said : "The most important is to participate."

@Unforgettable_Raja It is because these words are not in any English dictionary. You should better not use them in Scrabble.

I am surprised that you actually have started as many discussions as you have, especially since it takes you so long to comment back. Then again, keeping you in one discussion area is less wear and tear on your wheelchair, so I guess that makes sense.

I know what you mean @topffer, I too have trouble getting at least one posted. But when I don't post at least one, I feel like I am not doing my part for the community. So I bash my head against a wall (not literally) until I can get something that might sound half decent.

I do not start a discussion per day or week ... maybe if we start talking months or years then I might be able to come up with a number greater than zero.

@TexanTornado If you are talking this particular month, then the number would be greater than zero. If you are talking in an average month, though, then we should probably expand that to six months to a year before it gets to be greater than zero.

@TexanTornado LOL ... that's EXACTLY why I don't think, because I don't want my head to explode!

Ok, so in a months time? Would the number be higher than 0? Or is it more like 6 months -1 year?

Seems like it is one or two per day for me, but I try to comment more than I write. Also, we have a smaller membership right now and I don't want to blow up the notifications with a slew of posts and make people start to hate the sight of me.

I definitely comment more than I write. I prefer that part a whole lot more. To me it's easier, it's a topic of interest already there. Awww I don't think that would be the case at all, but I do understand what you are saying.

I don't like to have to many going at once, as it would be harder to keep up with them than if I do just one, or maybe just respond and comment for the rest of the time, until I think of an interesting topic. That is the hardest part, as when I comment ore respond, it comes natura., but starting a discussion takes more thought. I am having fun though, either way.

Rose, I hope I can keep up with mine and respond to others postings. I try to think of interesting topics to talk about sometimes my discussions might not be as interesting as I think they are so I hope others find them interesting.

@Marcyaz I have the same problem, and that is why I don't start as many as others do. I enjoy posting comments and ressponses to others discussions, more than I start my own discussions. Right now, I am having brain freeze, as I am drawing a total blank.

@rosekiss I have to agree. To comment on something of interest is so much easier than trying to start one and a good amount of times, you can interact within that discussion. It's one a discussion that interests you runs it course, people are looking for more interaction. That is when I feel I am not pulling my load. So I will decided to write something, and that is when my mind will go completely blank.

I don't know yet, as I just returned to mylot yesterday, but I kind of go with the flow. Since there is no limit of discussions here, I will just start a discussion whenever I have any idea about it. As a mother to two young children, though I am staying at home almost the whole day, I find a lot of interesting things around me, or something I'd like to discuss with others. I will not force myself to start any discussions or limit myself.

Good Idea lee ka, I am sure as a stay at home mom you could have a lot to talk about what cute things the children do and say. I would love to hear that.....

Well welcome back to mylot. Yes, I can understand the going with the flow. I am doing that for the most part. And I probably shouldn't worry so much to try and get at least 1 posted a day.

@TexanTornado I think if you'd like to challenge yourself, you can give yourself a target to start at least one discussion. But if you are not comfortable doing it, I think it's good to just do whenever you feel like it. I don't like to be forced to do something, unless I want to do it.

Hello and welcome to mylot community. There is no hard and fast rule for me to start a new discussion. If I feel there is an interesting topic to discuss, I start a new post. I also generally start one or two posts in a day but not on daily basis. I love to respond and post comments on the discussions started by others. I think responding also make us feel that we are contributing to the community.

@TexanTornado - Whatever meaningful e.g. starting an interesting post, responding or commenting we contribute here, makes us feel good, in my view. We believe that when others read our comments they will come to know what are our thoughts and some of them may even agree with us or may acknowledge our contribution.

It varies for me. When if comes to a site like myLot, I prefer to respond or comment, over starting discussions. Just take a look at many discussions I've started. You'll see that it is hardly any compared to how many responses or comments I've made!

I try to do at least one (more if something hits me) and comment on several. I don't want to start so many discussions that I can't give quality answers. Off course some of my topics don't appeal to everyone. It is what it is so I just keep going.

That is a great mentality to have, to just keep going. Recently I have tried doing at least 1 per day, I think I might have done 2 on some days. And some days, I can't manage the one. I prefer commenting, interacting, laughing and joking on other people's. Sometimes doing that will give me an idea to be able to muster up one.

I wont start any discussion unless - 1.there is something I have to discuss about, or, 2. I have time to make myself available for a discussion - this wins over many a times as I feel impolite to throw off my discussion and go absconding for days and then return to start re-discussing it

Ah, Yes. That makes perfect sense to me. I have tried doing the same things, but sometimes I will start one, and the interaction starts, then it's time to call it a night. However, I do pick it backup in the morning to reply to all those who has responded.

I start only when I can think of one, maybe once a month or sometimes none at all. It is not necessary for you to start at least one a day to contribute to the community. You have already contributed by discussing on other person's discussion.

@TexanTornado I guess I have been using my brain too much in the office, so can't think what to write here. Don't worry, I think there are many many many contributors here. So you can feel a bit at ease now. Don't have to put so much pressure on yourself.
