Exploring Discussions

One way to find discussions to read and participate on is through the Explore menu. We're provided with further sub-menu on the left hand panel consisting of 6 filters: 1. Interesting 2. Top Rated 3. Most Recent 4. Hot 5. New User 6. No Responses At least half of the six is self explanatory, like Most Recent, New User, and No Responses. Those are discussions that are most recently submitted, first submitted by new users, and receive no response after being submitted for some time. Hot discussions are those receiving most number of Responses while Top Rated discussions are those receiving most number of Likes. The default is Interesting discussions; now, I'm not too sure how it is filtered but I will take a guess that it consists of discussions with the most interactions. Yes, or no?

myLot finds your interests with the tags that you are giving to your own discussions and others discussions, and they give you a list of discussions with similar tags that might interest you in "Interesting". I have often discussions with no response in this list, so it does not depend on interactions (you have "Top Rated" for this). It works like "You Might Also Like" : this one scans the tags in one discussion, and finds old similar discussions with the same tags.

Oh, I see... Now it's all starting to make sense to me why are all those discussions showing up there. Thank you so much for this explanation.

I find most of the post are the same in all the three categories. They get stuck there for days.. I never bother checking them.. I always go straight for the most recent.

Being on the opposite time zone, I often miss some good discussions posted many hours ago. I try to catch them from the Interesting, Top Rated, and Hot options.

Some of the pages are practically bottomless; I'll be here forever if I start from the bottom .

@kiran8 Please see @topffer 's response for criteria of Interesting discussions. I was wrong, it's not related to interactions - rather, it's related to tags. I have to get used to myLot language that tags=interests

I use the explore quite often, espeically if I can't see a discussion that interest me, the explore will have a few anyway. I will go to the new user tab and respond to discussions there, and the no respnonse tab. I want to help others earn, so by doing that helps them and in turn I will get hlp as well. Teamwork is what I call it, when we all help each other.

@sishy7 Thank you for saying that. I try to help others, as that is what mylot is all about. The way I do it though, I end up posting to enough discussions to keep me going for awhile, although I do take breaks at different times.

I first tried Explore last Saturday . I was surprised one of my post was at Top rated . So it means it got the most number of likes . I want to be seen in the Hot one .

Chances are when it's on Top Rated, it will also be on Hot and Interesting.

I also go to the explore page everytime I am on here. I did not know how the interesting posts were determined but somewhere in all the sub categories I can always find something to read and comment on. I also like to hit the new discussions section sincce that helps me know who is active when I am visiting the site.

I wasn't clear on that either until I read @topffer 's explanation in his response to this post.

The filters are invaluable as the main explore list doesn't change too much. The recent list helps give an idea how fast Mylot is moving and growing.

When we interact on new discussions, chances are we'll get counter comments in real time as the poster may still be around to respond.
