Just a heads up for everyone who sends out packages. No longer use your fragile stickers or write fragile on your packages. Post office is now charging 10.35 for each package that has this on them. I send out some but never write fragile on them since i know the people get tired of boxes and packages and usually just toss them anyway..no offence but heavy lifting is tiring after awhile.. You want action...write beware on them.....and to protect your goodies..just package them well.. Hope this helped some of you and if not ignore this discussion... Have you all received your brownies from me yet?

When I lived in France I remember that it was useless to mark the packages "Fragile" as they seemed to take pleasure in being rude with this kind of stickers. The best is to pack well. About the brownies, did you send them overseas too...? Someone ate them and never reached my home.

I send my small packets (less than 2 kg) as letters with "LETTRE" and not "fragile" on them in France. They are delivered by the ordinary postman and letters are not kicked. It is even cheaper. The only thing is that it is forbidden by the French postal rules to send a packet as a letter. However, if you use a machine to weigh and stamp your "letter", and put it in the box near the machine, they cannot reproach you to not know their rules, they only can reproach to themselves to not have enough employees at the desks.

I don't think I've written 'fragile' on a parcel. I pack stuff well. The only thing is paperwork that may include a photograph, I will put cardboard in the envelope but also write 'do not bend' on the outside.

No we haven't receive your brownies yet as you only sent them to Howard. Shame on you forgetting the rest of us. Seriously I had no idea that you couldn't write fragile on a package and be charged extra for it. I very seldom use the PO for packages as I find UPS to be better for my needs which is not often.

That is really good to know. Thanks. I don't send much but good to know if I do. Especially this time of year with the holidays coming up. Luckily my granddaughter is moving back from Pendleton so that will save. She will have my second great grandson in November so glad she will be here. You know how Grammies have to give stuff to those kids.

Oh, please tell me that you are joking! That is such a waste of customers money! I know for a fact that they toss packages, even when it states that it's fragile. After all, I've worked for the post office before, so I've seen it firsthand!

Yeah, I have noticed this about "fragile" packages and there have been plenty of videos to show how the employees (for instance airport, or some curiers ) like to challenge the fragile wrapping or the outside protective wrapping to see how much damage they can do. The only time I used an airport white plastic band on one of the luggage is the only time they broke both the outside (1 wheel) and the inside (all hard protective plastic broken). As for the new charge, I assume this is for the US states only, right ?

Can I write "Please don't throw" instead? I never use fragile either. I just bubble wrap the heck out of things.

I wish they did helium-filled bubble wrap. The more you use, the less the postage cost (and the safer the goods inside). Also, if you pop it with your teeth, your voice goes all squeaky!

At my last job (at office), our neighboring building was rented to one of these cargo / courier people. I have seen them toss (? Throw would be more apt) the packs no matter what they contained. Fortunately, I do not have anything to post or dispatch via cargo. There is even no one whom I can write letters today . I terribly miss those days when I would wait endlessly for the postman to show up and bring me a letter and I would start writing a letter in response

I bet I could get around that by writing some like, Danger, high explosives. That will make them not toss the box. Out of fear that is. LOL. Nice!!!

Wow! That's over and above the postage rate!! Of course, they handle things more carefully than UPS and FedEx do, for sure.
