So I told this story on Facebook in a group that I'm in that is dedicated to black cats. Somebody had posted a picture of a black cat that just reminded me of her.
My brother and sister-in-law were driving through Sylmar one night. It was back in the early 90's, I think. They still lived in the LA, as did I, and my mother was still alive. While they were driving, they saw something out of the corner of their eye, and there was a thump thump. They had run over something.
They went back and saw a black cat, and she was still alive, so they found an all night vet, and surprisingly the cat wasn't badly hurt. She was about 10 years old, and really sweet. My mother ended up taking her in and naming her Spooky, and she ended up living about another 5 years before she passed away in her sleep. She must have used more than a few of her nine lives that day.
So somebody in the group on Facebook got all pissy with me for describing the "thump thump". Really, my point was that it could have been so much worse, and that it was great that they went back for her when most people wouldn't have. I guess no matter what you say or how you say it, there is somebody who is going to get offended.

Strange they would get offended by that. It was just enough description that I got what happened, but it certainly didn't gross me out or anything. Plus the cat was ultimately ok and it was a happy ending - what's wrong with that?

Sorry the person was offended. your right no matter what you say or do someone will be offended. They need to get over it real quick and grow a pair. Your wall, your thread. You can post what you like.

You are describing what happened and trying to put the reader in the space. Nothing wrong with that. I cannot think of any other way to describe what happened that would truly allow the reader to feel what you we about. I would say that your choice of words worked since someone got offended. I am a huge cat lover and yes the thump thump brought teard to my eyes but I was not offended. IT is a good story. YOu can never control other peoples reactions, but as a writer I would think getting reactions, no matter what they are, means you are doing a great job.

My daughter would probably object to that. She loves tumblr..

I think you worded it very clear and without offence, but it is your story and you are telling it..of course if you were Stephen king..it could have went very wrong for that person....
I am a Black cat fan and have accidently done that to one of my own, should i quit talking to myself over that?

People just like to complain, and I feel like Facebook brings out the worst in a lot of people.

I'd hate to see this person whenever they read a book, "Her long, red, hair..." "What? LONG,red, hair!? Get my lawyer on the phone!"

What is wrong with saying thump, thump. Some people will say anything to get attention. that was nice you took care of the cat.

I think you did a great job telling what happened. Some people are just never happy. They would have been mad if you said they heard it get hit, or felt the car raise up a little. I would not worry about it.

I agree with Lamby. One of the reasons facebook scares me. My father once drove over a little puppy, it was injured and it cried. I still look out for a limping dog when we pass by that route. Dad did not stop. He couldn't care less, and when I told him to stop, he was angry and increased the speed instead. Many witnessed that..

Felines are so possessive, they pretty much think they own you. I have three of them, and at times, they don't let me eat, until I have fed them.

Those thing happen. It was great they went back for her, and took her in. i did that once to a dog in mexico someone ran over infront of my home there. i took him to vet cost 100.00 and we had him like 7 years before he passed. he was a great pet. We have a black cat that lives her but its only an outside cat.. dont think he really belongs to anyone. So i feed him now and then. he loves my tuna salad hahahaha.
