Reading more than one book at a time

I have been known to read 4 or 5 books at a time. Some people find this weird or crazy. For me as long as the books are very different in plot line or in characters than it's easy. I do this because sometimes one book gets dull or I want to savor it so I turn to another book so I have time to finish the first.
Are there people out there like me?

Yeah - my sister. I remember reading an article some time ago that describes different kinds of readers and seems like you're under the "Polygamist reader" category. I'm somewhere between "Introvert" and "Altruist" reader, hehe.

Thanks so much for this link! I am going to make a discussion out of this. I am actually a Polygamist Extrovert reader.

It can get confusing that is why I try to read ones that are far apart in story line.

I haven't been reading as much books or ebooks as I used to. I try to read one book at a time when I can but since I don't like reading that much anymore I tend to jump from one book to the next and then back again so I guess we're kind of in the same boat.

I don't find it weird. I do the same thing. When I was a child my parents told me that it was a bad habit. They said that I should finish one book before I read the next, but I didn't listen 30 years later I still read many books at the same time, and I always have a pile of books next to my bed instead of one book.

i cant!! well. maybe i can but i prefer not to. i get really invested in the book im reading and like to read as fast as i can lol so i wouldnt want to divide my time. sometimes if i am not enjoying a book, and i start a new one, i find it really difficult to go back to finish the first book.

I'm a sucker for reading more than one book at a time. Some days, I can go between one to three books, alternating between them. I have so many too, that are still unfinished. Case in point Maire by Linda Windsor and The Wolf Gift by Anne Rice. I also recently restarted reading two other books from so long ago. Some days, I just can't help myself.
I don't read as much as I use to, as in spending all day reading, but I tend to read a chapter here and there out of the books I feel enticed to put myself into, and by the time I stop reading, I find that somehow I left a part of myself in that story. Sounds weird, doesn't it?

Ooo I love the Wolf Gift! You need to finish it and read the 2nd book!I read a few chapters a day but on weekends I usually read more.
What do you mean by leaving a part of yourself in the story?

I often have multiple books going. I have light paperback books, mostly novels to travel with on buses, etc. I read heavier more valuable hardbacks at home. I read library books and review copies for publishers - both have deadlines so often take over from other readings. I also break for short stories, poems and comics

I read a lot of books from the library, paperbacks and hardcovers. I actually am a part of 2 library systems but am reading more obscure things lately that I can't get at either library so I have to look for them elsewhere. How did you get into reviewing for publishers. I have tried reviewing some on goodreads and started a blog but I am at a standstill with them.

I would only read more than one book at a time if one were say, non-fiction and the other fiction. Or perhaps two totally different genres. Otherwise I think I would get the stories confused. I also think of it as like writing a book. If I am working on one book I will not start on another for fear that I will not go back and finish the other. Finding time to read one book is hard enough these days.

I stick to one book at a time but that is mostly because I really get into books and have trouble putting a book down once I start it. If I have no issues putting it down then chances are I will not pick it up again. Books are an excape for me and I guess I like to excape to only one place at a time.

I don't know how you do it. There are times when I have to make a list of who is who in just one book! Honestly! How you keep track in four or five... boggles my mind!

I have been an avid reader since my adolescence, but I read one book at a time.If you ask me to reader another book along with the one I am reading,I would understand and enjoy neither. When I read a book,I am fully concentrated on it.

I do not read books that often
I am rather interested in movies
For me movies are more fun
But when I read a book , I only read one at a time
But your point is quite valid that some books get dull at some point of time

I do that! I'm a student so people keep asking me how I can manage reading such a lot of books at the same time. I just give them a sly smile. But, this is kind of the way I've been brought up. My parents always enourage me to read more and more. We're members of two libraries. One is the Rotary library from where we get 3 books- one for my brother, and two for me, mom and dad. From the other, I can issue one book for myself, so ending up with more than one book to read is inevitable! :)
You're not alone.
