I was talking to friends at work and one of them had already bought most of the xmas presents on her list! I was kind of surprised, but i know it is a good idea to get it out of the way. Have you started buying Christmas Presents Already?

@Marcyaz Yeah I know Marcy it is bad, but hey, we have had many like that, and I am sure we are not the only ones right. I am sure you have had Xmas like that too.

Sorry to hear that too. Spending time with family is the most important way to celebrate, not buying gifts

Not yet and it's too early for me but I don't have to give them all,My pocket will be empty lol because there are many of them, nephews, god daughters. Some little present like a gift card will do for me to the others.

I buy presents all the year round. When I see an object that can be a gift for one of my friends or my family, I buy it. This is a lot less stress when Xmas arrives.

@Marcyaz This is also a way to save some money, because I often buy stuff on sale.

We used to do the lay away thing and tried to start as early as we could so we could get everything we wanted to for the kids. Then one day we just stopped. We had had a bad experience with a lay away where they took everything we had on the lay away back on the shelf and never even called us to let us know or make the needed payments. We had asked them before we ever did it if we could pay once a month and we were told we could. So, anyway, we have just quit buying a lot of stuff. Wrapping paper and tape and gifts and tags for the gifts. It's all such a materialistic thing. And we teach our kids that that is normal. I don't think it is. We buy something, we just don't go for the wrapping and all the fuss. It doesn't have to be that way. We choose to listen to all the hype and feel we need it that way when we don't really. I enjoy the memories I have of Christmases in the past but I also remember the sea of wrapping paper and the bows and tags all such a waste when you think about it.

All the wrapping paper when you can use newspaper or those Holiday bags from the dollar store which is so much easier.

They really are a waste, and it has become too commercialized. A money making holiday that is all!

I'm almost completely finished with my list, too. I bought some Christmas-themed things on clearance at the beginning of the year, and I've done a lot of clearance-section shopping between then and now. Amazon had some really good sales on Green Toys earlier in the year, so I picked up a couple items for each of the kids. I really need to go through and take a look at what I have so I can plan the rest of my shopping accordingly.

Since I only buy for my husband and the dog - no need to start yet! When I had to buy for lots of folks back in New Jersey I would have been finished by now. Life is so much easier now.

I usually start in September although last year I got off to a late start. My recipient list gets shorter every year however...and I'm happy to accept a hug of good cheer myself.

@gudheart I try to tell my grandchildren that Christmas is about giving to others and not receiving gifts in return. It worked with the oldest great. He bought a coat for a little girl who did not have one. His mother arranged with the Teacher so the little girl did not know who gave it to her. I was so proud of him for doing that.

@jstory07 That is a really nice thought. Giving to others less fortunate is the best way to celebrate the holy month.

I leave it till December because I don't want my year to be dominated by one day. Of course that makes me that man you see frantically scouring the depleted shelves on Christmas Eve!
