Thinking back on my hooking days....

Yes, I did some hooking but that was when I was younger and more agile. It started out as a hobby, but then I really got into it. My mother actually got me into hooking. She taught me all I knew about it. My first husband never could figure out why I enjoyed it so much.
But, as they say, with age comes wisdom and the older I got the wiser I got. I finally realized that hooking was not good for my eyesight. I had to taper myself off but eventually I was able to quit.
Now you know why I had to put away the wool and the patterns and the little gadget you use to hook rugs. I do have some wall hangings and a beautiful Christmas Tree skirt that I still use today.
I was a very happy hooker, but those days are over.

I never learned to knit or crochet, but other type crafts I did all the time. No time or energy now.

@Jessicalynnt I can't sew on a button, not so it would stay anyway.

I've not heard this word used like this since I was a small child lol :-) .. I have never hooked before but I do greatly enjoy embroidery and patch quilting. Like you my eyes as well as my hands no longer allow for it. Now I make braided throw rugs they do not require the fine sight or dexterity. Not my first pick but it's still a fun craft to pass time with.

Those 'rag rugs' as we call them are very popular in the south. I don't remember seeing many of them when we lived in the north.

@Jadedjinn What you have to be careful with if you use them is they slip and slide!

You know, now that you mention it i don't recall seeing any when I lived in the north either. I just thought it was country style vs city style. The North is more city and the south does have a country tune, I guess they go hand I hand..

I "hooked" years ago in high school. I loved it and haven't been able to find the time or the money, or both to get back into it.
I plan to pick it up again soon though, I've got some patterns in my head that I've just got to hook.

Good for you! When I did hook my mother did the binding for me, she is gone now and I don't sew.

You did not fool me one bit but maybe that was because I come from a family of hookers!
I've never been crafty though.

Plus the finger dexterity is problematic.

We do have to change course when those problems pop up.
