Liquids Do Not Mean Water Only

In our days, there is a lot of confusion about how much water we need to drink.
People believe that we need to drink eight full glasses of water every day to stay healthy.
The reality is that we need the equivalent of eight glasses of "liquids".
Coffee, tea, sodas, wine, juices, even the water contained in soups, fruits and vegetables are part of those eight glasses of liquids.
Too much water leads to water intoxication and it is dangerous, in extreme cases it can lead to death.
There is always one rule to follow, this is common sense.
Listen to your body and never force yourself to drink or eat something that you do not feel you want or need.

@LadyDuck Totally agree with you. I drink a variety of liquids during the day when I am thirsty but never force myself more than I want.

@RasmaSandra When I was a kid nobody told us to drink water all the day. I remember how healthy my grandparents were, simply because they had common sense.

I drink water all day long, as I have a 64 oz water bottle. I keep water in it at all times, so that Ihave water to drink when I need it. Now, it isn't hard to stay hydrated, but in the summer it was, as I got dehydrated all the time. It stayed hot and I just had a hard time getting enough water.

Its time the word 'water' is replaced with 'liquids' Drink ing so much of water is not good as it dilutes the acids in the stomach which are necessary for proper digestion. and it is a load on our kidneys too

@LadyDuck At the same time someone who has acidity I am told is told to drink water before eating. I find it odd though.

All I can say is research is as fickle as those that foot the bill. I like water and drink a lot of water.. maybe even more than 8 glasses per day.. I feel tired and dehydrated if I don't ..
I guess we need to listen to our bodies. However, sodas and coffee should be kept minimal. Water helps flush out toxins while these add to it.

True. I'm not the type than can drink too much plain water. It makes me nauseous sometimes. I try to make it a variety water, juice, fruit etc. instead of just water.

I am not sure, but I read some articles specifically stating 8 glasses of water are "water only", but not other liquid drinks, especially excluding coffee and tea. I am not sure how true it is, but I really like your statement about "listen to our body"!
I don't count how much water I drink per day, I just drink whenever I feel like it.

I am not a big water drinker. Its important to drink something and in the morning I like orange juice and coffee to start the day. This helps me get moving to complete the important things on my to do list.

As I get older I find that I have to drink more water. I feel dehydrated if I don't. When I was younger sweet iced tea was my daily drink all day long. I rarely touched water to my lips back then. Now I only drink one glass of sweet iced tea a day. I drink a cup of coffee and/or a herbal tea in the morning then the glass of sweet tea at night with dinner. The rest of the day is water water water!

Some fruit also contains more water like water melon. I myself fans of plain water. I can drink plain water in how much I need and combine it with tea, or fruit juice

That's right.Digesting water needs energy in Chinese medicine theory and is not fit for people who are lack of vital energy.

As the saying goes - anything consumed in excess is bad so try drinking liquids in moderation. It is correct however that when we say 'liquid' - it really does not mean water. Juices and soups are usually my choice.
Drinking liquid in moderation will help the body flush out toxins so make sure that you have your share of 8 glasses of liquid everyday.

I think most people do not drink enough water, but like you said they drink coffee, tea, soda. I drink water all the time and the funny thing is I still have dry skin. What is up with that?

Hi guys, and Anna..you're absolutely spot on with this..my mother was a 'water addict', which hospitalised her as her addiction had washed all necessary vital salts and minerals from her body and virtually drowned herself...by the way have no idea what I'm doing on this site, nor how to use it, from the Bub, but good to see familiar faces!
