After some prodding I have just posted on the 'Blue' site. As many of you know I love a good factoid and that's what I wrote about. But one of the facts had me aghast: 1 in 6 mobile phones in the United Kingdom is contaminated with faecal matter!! ??? How? Answers on a postcard please. (Or in a comment) If @toflanigan ever appears and reads this, I am sure he will appreciate it's lavatorial nature :)

I think it's simply a failure to wash hands. And all you need is for one in six to touch other surfaces touched by other unwashed hands and then touching phones... It's disgusting really . By the way, did they WHOSE fecal matter it is?

unless they explain the sources and means by which such stats were attained they are pretty meaningless. I could say one in a thousand people have been abducted by aliens but without corroborative evidence it's meaningless- not a fact at all. I presume they mean second hand phones or used phones that people handle without washing their hands, etc.

@ison_1 This was one of the little toilets that we had to enjoy in a small region in the middle of our country - where there are still Toilet pits and sewerage pipes - he he the smell is forever present. I just had to use it for you.

Judging by the standards of hygiene, or lack thereof, I have witnessed in pub, restaurant, work, public toilets etc. I'm gob-smacked that it's only 1 in 6!!

It is not difficult to understand, people never wash their hands after they go to the toilets. I still cannot understand how they believe that the hands stay "clean". This is disgusting if you think that they do not only touch their phones but also the door handles, lift buttons.... foood

Yuk! How disgusting! Makes me think of the public toilets we frequent at the malls. We usually wash or hands and dry them then we walk out - but we have to open the door. What's on the door handle? Makes me want to wear rubber gloves and a mask when going there!
