I'm Tired of Living the Poor Man's Lifesytle

For years I have saved my money and only bought things I've needed and used things, stretching out their lives until they don't work any more. Some of this has led to frustration and it makes me wonder why I don't just spend a little to live a little before I die a horrible death and lay forgotten in a ditch somewhere (I nearly died in a ditch already, so that's not an unlikely scenario).
I've wanted to make money before I buy things, but perhaps getting rid of the excess mental baggage will liberate my mind enough to let me make money. Perhaps my restraint is what's holding me back all along. I don't want to be seen as poor, but I can't help but feel like it when I see people on welfare wearing nicer things and driving around in newer cars (my car is 22).
It might be time for an upgrade.

LoL! i am too a poor guy. But what motivates me is eventhough rich gets some money, tghey wont matter but when a poor earns much he wil be noticed by all and i think that is the essence of being poor.

Living to make myself happy might be a bad thing, but I think I need to transition.

Take it from this old lady, you can carry frugality too far. However, we would probably drive your car if it is running. Ours are that old, we just keep them in good repair.

I keep it in good repair, it's just if I don't run it all the time it has a whole host of issues. This year I replaced the whole muffler system, last year was the battery, a head light and the front grill, before that was an engine overhaul and other things. The bottom is rusting out though. The mechanics say they are worried that it will break apart in the next year.

@OneOfMany Then, start now. Trust yourself. If you know for sure what you are doing and know it is right, don't give up.

@DnkHrth Yes, if I had my way it would influence the direction of the entire world's future, which I think would be a good thing.

Yes, but I can't do anything if I don't start now. Plus, when I come back I want the world to be better for my next incarnation.

If you haven't been spending a lot and saving it is probably time to start indulging a little. As they say, you can't take it with you

@OneOfMany You lay platform for your next life from what you do in this life. That's why I said when we go, only thing we take is things we done. Believe in good.

Yes, you can't take it with you and you can't leave it for your next incarnation. After all, you never know who that would be, when, or where!

Unfortunately the car wasn't very expensive when I got it, but the parts really are! There are getting to be fewer and fewer.

@OneOfMany I think the cut off is twenty years: after that the car is considered an antique and the prices go up, up, up.

I hear ya.. I'm tired of looking/feeling/being poor too. For years we scraped the bottom of the barrel just to get by. Now we've got a bit extra and I'm working hard on paying past debts and saving bit by bit to ensure we never end up there again. We've been extremely frugal for the past few months trying to pay down our debts and save a bit... but something always goes wrong. We've had to replace both of our cars in the past month. We do now have nicer cars, but my goal is to have a much nicer house!

@OneOfMany You have those same kinds of problems in a house though. Granted my house is old and needs a lot of repairs, but I get frozen pipes in the winter too.

I would love to build a house someday. For now I'm in a poorly insulated trailer. It's a nice one with a modified ceiling and lots of open space. Being just by myself I really don't need something bigger right now, but worrying about pipes freezing during the winter is getting old.

@katsmeow1213 That's why I want to build a house, because I already know how I would design it to be efficient enough not to be impacted by cold weather.

It seems to me that there is a time for everything and it is time you began to enjoy yourself and even spoil yourself. A little extravagance once in a while would give your self image a much needed boost.

I don't know, but I have some idea. So far my life threatening events are when my age is a multiple of 8, so in 7 years or one of the ones after that. Whichever one I'm unable to overcome. :)

it's a catch 22, buy what you can afford and half the time it's cheap and breaks. So sometimes you have to buy something more expensive, if you want things to last. cars, eh, sometimes older ones are better. Clothing, well sometimes you can fix that, with sales, and with second hand, clothes that fit and have no holes or stains will always look better than expensive ill fitting things

Clothing I have to order online, so I buy one pair of jeans a year. Some of my shirts are 15 years old or older.

Saving for a rainy day is ok if you aren't depriving yourself of living a fulfilling life. If you have money to spend then you should indulge occasionally but if you don't it isn't worth getting into debt for luxury items.

Dear Morgan,
I lost my job several months ago, and I do several inspection to earn little money only every month. Now I am trying to talk with my former leader to get their help to see if they can help me introduce one job for me . meanwhile , I am keeping look for job in the internet , and learn some medicine knowledge as i want to work in medicine shop after I retired . I allowed several minutes sad on myself , but i never allowed over 30minutes dissapointed on myself , I will try my best to find new job or new thing to do to earn money .
I need to pay life cost to my parents every year. I told my monther that i can deal my own things,
she doesn't need worry about me.
What I can suggest to you that is go to learn something in your spare time, it might be make you forget bad things , you will be more happy. Sometimes Think about people who always can not eat enough , You are much better than them.
Time goes fast , Try you best to do everything and make yourself relax in your mind.
God bless you ,
May

I'm trying to get my writing ability back in order to finally aim for publishing my own books and see if I can't get to where I wanted to be many years ago. I'm starting to break seals and chains and everything else that keeps me from doing what I need to.

It happens more often than not, because they aren't paying taxes, trading in excessive amounts of food stamps and getting goods to sell for extra money, and living in low cost housing. As my one employer's brother said "I'm making more from welfare than I have from my last 6 jobs, why would I work?"

@OneOfMany But if performing at full throttle now is likely to mean that the tools will be broken later?

Yes, but it's good to perform at full throttle in the present with the tools you have. If the tools are broken it's difficult to move forward as easily.

A person needs balance between making sure there is enough for bills and in having some enjoyment from money earned. I like to think of what is really important to me. I might keep the 22 year old car because I want to ski and have money for things like that. So, I am frugal in order to have the things that are really important to me.

I plan to get a new car next year. One way or another it has to happen. A new phone is needed as well. It's signal and battery strength is starting to falter (had it 5 years).
