Not Even Remotely Funny

Bosun pasted onto photo of part chewed remote

Just when I thought things were getting better with my puppy Bosun and his chewing he had to go and spoil it all. Bosun is only a small dog. He is a Patterdale Terrier and his breed is used to hunt small game such as rabbits or pests like rats. He is small and solid and very strong for his size. They are tough hardy little dogs and extremely cute looking. Yes I know that I might be a little bias but he receives enough attention in the streets to know that it is not just me that thinks so. He has a very strong jaw, and chews just about anything including small pieces of rock. He has been getting better at not chewing our things then he had to go and spoil that this morning. My hubby was out on our balcony putting the finishing touches to part of his latest project. I popped into the kitchen and made us both a cuppa tea. I came back with two mugs of tea, and called my hubby in. As he came in he asked “What is Bosun eating?” I looked down to see the remote control to the media player broken apart on the floor. One piece was still in Bosun's mouth as he contentedly continued to chew on it. He is not in my good books at the moment, though we are at fault too because we had not put temptation out of his reach. He is not even remotely sorry, but one look from him and I just can't be mad at him. I am putty in his paws lol... I pasted the photo of Bosun onto a photo of the damaged remote so you can see the culprit and what he did

Oh dear, this reminded me of our dear golden lab Holly when she was a pup. She ate everything until she was about two years old, or otherwise buried it in the garden. Our son learned to keep his bedroom very tidy!

@valmnz We have all become a little more careful about where we put things since having Bosun. Obviously though not careful enough lol...

That's how I react when Preiti used to be doing those things in her young days. You just cannot punish them.

@allknowing One thing I have found is that any dog is worth the trouble you go through in the beginning. I have always got more back from my dogs than I ever had to put in :D

@BelleStarr I am sure that Bosun will soon out grow this chewing stage. He will be one year old next month so I think he will stop soon. Still it is a small price to pay for all the happiness he gives us.

Oh wow! I would be mad if my dog did that.. But I guess we are partly to be blamed for their habits.

@maggs224 True.. training is what they need .. however, they seem to like plastics over chewys themselves.

The chewing part is just the nature of a puppy but leaving the remote where he can get his teeth into it well that is all down to us lol... We are being more careful where we put things now :D

@PainsOnSlate Have you noticed that your @ is missing a 't' and reads Pains instead of Paints. I must admit this is the first time that I have noticed. Bosun gives me far more back than I have to put in. He is worth every little bit bother he causes. I get a lot of joy from having this little dog around and I wouldn't be without him. At my age I didn't want a puppy and all the trouble that goes with raising a puppy. But as soon as they put Bosun in my arms I knew he was the dog for me.

@maggs224 We had a power outage the day I signed up to this site. When I tried to get back on I couldn't and between Jabo and Rebelann they contacted support for me and he sent me a message showing i had misspelled by losing the T to my name so I left it the way it is. As long as my email works I'm good with the site. I've been teased a bit about being a pain...

@LadyDuck My son has managed to repair a few after bosun has chewed on them. He did it by taking bits out of old remotes to replace the chewed up bits. Though I am not sure if he will be able to repair this one.

I know how you feel. I have a dachshund puppy who is almost 4 months old named Daisy and she chews all the time. I have to watch her because she has started chewing the leg of our desk and has even chewed a spot in the door facing. I can't wait until she outgrows this.

@maggs224 They can really be a handful, can't they? I have heard that if they are bad puppies then they will be a great dog. I hope that is right.

@simone10 In the UK we have a saying "They are more trouble than they are worth" Fortunately this does not prove to be true when it comes to puppies lol...

He's so cute and that's why he can get away with anything. He'll soon learn not to mess with remotes. I think he wants to watch cartoons

tita417 We had this problem with one of our dogs many years ago. That dog was very similar to Bosun and chewed on anything. After about a year he just seemed to grow out of it. I am hoping it will be the same for Bosun.

What a bad little dog. You must let him know he's done wrong by giving him three hugs instead of four. That'll learn 'im!

dogs, problems, disaster, house,
If the truth is dogs are a disaster, and more when you leave them alone in the house. We should improve the ways of dealing with those problems with the dogs, you who believe?

Having said that I have just recalled when I had a rabbit, he chewed the wires connecting the freezer and the telephone. Neither were noticed until it was too late.

When my children were small, or when we had visitors who let their small children roam I used to put every breakable out of reach. It seems your little one is worse because he eats what he picks up, children are more particular.

At home, my dogs are ruining our slippers but we don't get mad since we knew that humans are smarter than dogs. It's our fault for not keeping the slippers to the place where they can't see.

I read your next post first, but this is still interesting. I've no doubt you give Bosun plenty of things that he's supposed to chew, and then he goes and does that!

This reminds me of the day I went to have our remote for our TV fixed as ours was looking almost like your one in the photo - so the shop attendant said - "dont let the dog get hold of the remote" to which I replied - Its not the dog, its my hubby . . . ha ha my hubby bites the back of his TV remote all the time - bad habit!

Just when you thought it was safe... We thought our Pup was well-behaved and he always snoozed quietly in the house after a nice walk and game of ball - until one day he suddenly decided to rip up and chew the vinyl floor covering!
