Sleeping in the afternoon

In the summer months I always take a short nap in the afternoons. The main reason being that it is too hot to do anything else and I am still energetic in the evening when it is cool enough to work comfortably.
As a result I wake up twice, which gives the impression of having two days, one hot one and another that is much cooler. I've grown to like having a siesta.
It is getting cool now and my afternoon nap is becoming less of a necessity and more of a luxury. I have to decide whether to continue and feel a little guilty or return to my winter routine and do something more profitable in the afternoons.

Definitely not something as mundane as housework Valerie! Out of your choice of alternatives I would choose to interact here.

@41CombedaleRoad I agree, but I also have a book to finish and get published next year. Housework is definitely last on my list of things to do.

You obviously need that sleep because it makes a difference to your health. It helps to make up for a bad night too.

@41CombedaleRoad that is for sure. Even if I just rest, it helps.

Taking a rest is probably just as good and you don't have worry about oversleeping when you need to pick up your girls.

If you would prefer not to sleep why not take a short walk, that might prevent a headache developing.

I don't like taking a nap in the afternoon because later in the night is a problem.

Yes, that can be a problem and going to bed late is another.

Yes a good afternoon nap can do wonders to your health and energy and mind. I try and take one too all year round. There are times I don't get one due to appointments or disruptions but usually I get half an hour to an hour. Which greatly helps me.

A cat nap is often as beneficial as a longer sleep and providing it is taken early it does not seem to disrupt sleep at night either.

I I also took a nap for a few minutes. It helps me to getting fresh for doing activities in the night even until late of night.

I suppose if you get more done in the evening after a nap, it's a good thing to do. Makes sense.

I do tend to work until quite late at night if I have had a sleep in the afternoon.

It is hard to stop, I agree. I had a little nap this afternoon so the habit is quite strong because it isn't hot anymore.
