Grandpa And Nana Are The Best!

We are now at the stage in our lives when we have become very popular people. Who with, you might ask? With our grandsons of course! They always love coming to us on visits and holidays because there are always exiting things to do at Grandpa and Nana! They are continually coming to me with requests to make something for them or to help them with building a hut or making a bow and arrow or a boat to pull round the pool with a string. I have learnt that buying expensive toys for the boys is a waste of money. They are far happier for instance when I cut bamboo sticks for them to make fishing rods or making string whips or swords for a sword fight or paper jets to fly around the garden or rope swings from the big wild fig tree. Nana, being an artist, has taught them to do many art projects such as creating, drawing and painting and they have developed their arty side. We have become the source of solutions to help turn their wonderful imaginations into reality. Well, it works sometimes!

You are the sort of grandparents everyone should have. The things you do with the children are far better than video games or being stuck in front of a computer.

Well, the 2 older boys are now in their teens and spend a lot of time on their smart phones on FB! When they visit I try to get them to do things on the farm like saw and chop firewood.

hi Peter :) Great stuff, so much fun to be had with a bamboo stick or a paper aeroplane!

Hi John - yes, but they are the ones who come and ask me to make them - I just follow their orders!

I hope that it works a little more than "sometimes". Kids are funny and can be so sweet, sometimes.

Yes, I didn't mention any of the times when they are not so sweet!
