Never Assume People Know

One of the most annoying things it to do is to assume something. Never assume someone knows something. It can lead to embarrassment and frustration when they don't. Communication helps us, and I might not know something is going on if you don't tell me. Out of all of the things I may be talented at, mind reading is not one skill I picked up. Therefore to assume I know without telling me, is a pain. There have been times where friends and family got mad at me about something and said "I thought you knew." Well, obviously, I didn't, because you assumed and didn't ask. I think we all know about the saying about what happens to you and me when you assume. So, communicate, and tell me what I need to know. Don't get upset later when you haven't told me and you think I should know. Everyone doesn't know, because there's someone out there who doesn't.

Oh yes, that saying is well known and so true. Same here, if you don't tell me something, don't be surprised if I am a little clueless.

Very true, with assumptions you're going to get the "well huh" type of look. And it really upsets me how people think I have the ability to read minds. If only. (although it might not be a good thing.)

@megamatt , yeah, I also think it would not be that great to be able to read minds. I'd rather stick to telling people to communicate better.

Indeed it is. How will you ever know what's going on? And it's a two week street...tell me, I'll listen. If you can't tell me, how will I know? Playing a guessing game never ends well. Thanks for replying.

My husband hates when I assume he knows why something upset me. My thought process is that he should know me well enough to know when something made me upset-apparently I am wrong though. Lol.

That's true. Communication is very important. Assumptions can darnish one's day.

Yes indeed, tell me...at least you know I know. You're just verifying if I do, and saving some embarrassment if I don't.

I must say I am guilty as charged especially in a relationship.

I agree, clear communication is important. But sometimes I think I have told someone something and actually I just thought about doing it. One of my friends calls that "forgetting to push the play button."
