How Do You Feel About Restaurants Clearing Plates Before Everyone's Done Eating?

October 29, 2015 5:07pm CST
Well it turns out I'm not the only one who's noticed that many restaurants are now clearing plates before everyone at the table is done eating. It's probably because of the pressure to turn tables as quickly as possible. What happens though is that those who eat quickly will be awkwardly left with nothing in front of them, and those who eat slowly will feel the need to hurry and finish. I personally find the whole experience pretty jarring, especially when servers don't even ask before clearing plates away! Have you noticed this, and how do you feel about it?

Extremely rude. I like to eat at a leisurely pace and then sit on a while. I'd say if we weren't all finished and someone tried to take away my plate. Dining out should be fun.

I have to say, and I am not generally a mean person, but this would NOT go over well AT ALL with me. It's my plate. It's my food. I paid for it. Hands off until I say so. On top of that, if there's anything left, I am taking it with me.

Extremely rude service, I would complain about that.

@marlina I agree! I think they should remove plates as you finish but only if they ask first and you say it's ok.

If the server tries to take my plates before everyone at the table is finished I say no leave it but if they ask are you finished then it is a different story.

@Marcyaz Exactly! Thing is the server needs to 'ask' first, don't you agree?

I have not noticed this, but I can tell you, unless you want a fork in the back of your hand you better leave your hands off my plate.
