Some commentators forget to write their own stuff

It is great to see comments and reactions to our articles. I do my best to respond to as much as possible and visit back those who have been so good to me, though it is frustrating when they haven’t added new discussions of their own to be able to start interacting with. It is possible here to gain income just from commenting on other people’s posts so some members don’t write too much themselves, which is fine.

I don't forget to start discussions. I choose not to start discussions.
Sometimes I have a limited amount of time to be here during the day.
Sometimes I get carried away having fun in a few threads my friends started.
Most of the time I just feel bad about starting discussions because I'm really bad about keeping up with the responses other users post on them. It's not fair to everyone else, so I avoid it.
Maybe I'll feel differently when I'm finally caught up on my existing ones. I'm getting a bit better, but I still have a lot to go through.

@yukimori that's fine - I'm sure everyone does what they feel best with - your stuff is great

@vandana7 absolutely - the more we write on different subjects the wider our chances of attracting attention

Some of the users here are very good in starting new discussions, while some of the users start few posts. If depend upon from person to person. I agree with your point that those who come and respond to your posts, you feel like reciprocating but if they have not started something new, you cannot reciprocate.

I have taken a quick survey and it appears that people tend to make more comments than posts. It is quite hard sometimes to think of a new topic.

@41CombedaleRoad - It is more or less correct that posting comments on discussions started by others is far more easier than starting our own posts. A new discussion, if it has to be meaningful requires application of mind and it is not easy to start a new discussion each day. I fall in this category. I start less discussions and respond more to others.

@41CombedaleRoad I can always come up with topics, but if commenting takes less time and pays the same, why work that hard?

Yes, I feel the same way, but I have found that looking through their other comments allows me to add to the conversation.

I only start a discussion when I have something to say. Alright, so I tend to have quite a bit to say about a great many things, but I usually can find a discussion on which to reply to quench my need to spout out words.

I tend to have too much to say in life so this is my best way to express myself without constant chatter

Yeah, I am encountering that way where it's tough to see the current post of the members who commented our discussion. They should post more and earn more.

not everyone has the time sadly and posts in themselves don't earn us anything but they need posts for people to react and respond to. Each new post is a fresh canvas for everyone.

it can be cyclical - your own writing certainly deserves attention @poehere

@poehere I don't check a post's length - I start reading the first few lines. If it stays interesting I reach the end.

@arthurchappell Thank you so much. I draw a little but I draw a lot more when I comment on other stuff. I don't draw a lot of attention to my own stuff because I think people don't read long posts much.

I think it's an unfortunate truth, in this type of community, that some folks simply won't take the time to compose new discussions. It's easier (and quicker!) to swoop through and comment on other people's thoughts. Granted, it takes more effort to come up with something interesting or original to say but, as you mentioned, the effort can certainly open the door to much more interaction... and that benefits everyone

@arthurchappell I totally agree! I've only come back to myLot within the last few days, after being here for years in the past. I've yet to start a new discussion, since my return, but I'm still figuring out how I can fit myLotting back into my daily routine. As you say, other responsibilities do have their place... but I'd definitely like to write here more. Crossing my fingers!

they often simply don't have the time due to other responsibilities. I could reply to a dozen read articles in the time it takes to write one

I have noticed there are many who do not write many posts but interact well. As long as there is activity I suppose that makes one's day here.

@hereandthere You participate well. I have seen that. I like to write posts as ideas just flood my mind sometimes

@allknowing i hope i'm part of those who "interact well." i wonder how sites like these would fare if there were no supportive audience like me?

Some people come up with some really good discussions and it's fun to interact. For me, I find it hard to come up with interesting things to talk about

diversity is the spice of life - it is good that the site is flexible enough to make both approaches work

It would be nice if everyone would post as often as they could, so it will give us all something new to respond too.

Especially if others have commented first and much that you might have said has already been covered

Wow, that's a point I haven't actually thought of, people would actually want to read more posts from me. I always thought comments and responses were less intrusive, cos if I make a boring response, then at least they are not obligated to comment.
I also struggle to come up with topics, am just not a very interesting person unfortunately... :(

I don't know the "magic sauce" here. I am writing twice per week and commenting twice per day now. I wish I knew the correct focus.
