Getting paid for recipes

Greece

When I was scouring magazines for writing opportunities I found one with a weekly recipe completion for a small remuneration. I'm not a cook but it just happened that I had found a way to produce a very fast chicken pie. Briefly it involved cutting a croissant in half and filling it with ready cooked meat and heating it in the oven. I padded it out somewhat and submitted it to the magazine. After I had posted it I realised that I had written 'cut a crouton in half' by mistake! I did not expect them to look twice at a recipe from a cook who did not know the difference between a croissant and a crouton. However to my utter amazement mine was published as the recipe of the week! They had realised my mistake and make the necessary alteration!

I think that's really cool! Have you submitted anymore recipes? Good thing they corrected it for you One year at work, a friend and I made a cookbook as Christmas gifts for the others, using recipes they gave us. One recipe for pound cake called for 1/3 cup of oil and I put 3 cups of oil by mistake! One girl made it for us and it was actually pretty tasty, even if there was oil dripping from the cake.

No more recipes from me, that one was a fluke! However it may be worth you having a try as you are blessed with a love of cooking.

@41CombedaleRoad I do love to cook. Unfortunately, my talent doesn't always keep up with my desire

It is good that they double checked for the mistake before they published it. Do you get paid in cash for sending recipes? As for my area here, they pay the owner of the published recipe in gift card or shopping coupon.

I was paid cash, £10 English pounds. I think I responded to this before but it seems to have gone. Sorry for repeating myself if that is the case.

I suspect that people who look for recipes in magazines rather than recipe books are looking for something easy and yummy. Have you ever given it a try?

I really like recipes that are easy to do and don't take a lot of time.

I resent spending too much time in the kitchen, but I like food and this is the price I must pay.

You were a lucky one! Not because they changed the misspelled word, but also because I think most cooks have already invented that recipe to eat while they were hungry cooking something more elaborate Seriouly, I´m glad that you got paid.

What a great news! I enjoy cooking and actually I often post new recipes online. Since I can easily find my recipes when I want to cook something. I will not get any paid from it but I like to share it with others. I will be very happy if my recipes can help any body to make great dishes. This is my online recipes I am sorry it is all Chinese. In fact I should also write in English so that more people can try to cook it.

Too bad, your recipes are in Chinese. My Chinese is not that good, so unable to read and try them out. If possible, can you translate some of your recipe in English?

@myfb2009 It will be a hard work to translate my recipes into English. I wish at that time I wrote it in two languages.

I submitted a few recipes to magazines but they never got back to me i don't know if there is a long wait process or if they just didn't like it. Shortly after I had seen a submission for a recipe that is common and all they did was use bouillon and it got published. good for you congrats

Don't give up hope, my success was probably due to them not getting anything better that week. Try another magazine or else wait a few weeks and try again.

@41CombedaleRoad thanks for the words of encouragement. I hadn't thought about it for some time now until I read your post.
