What's that smell?

Needing to buy a few things, I popped into the local store. At the checkout, there was a smartly dressed lady in front of me. A rather unpleasant smell wafted around, and I realised that it increased when the lady moved to put her goods on the conveyor belt.
The store assistant, who was old enough to know better, picked up an item of the shopping and shoved her nose against the wrapper, saying," What's that smell? Has something gone off?" She did the same with the next item. If that had been my shopping, I'd have asked her to get me a fresh pack, I wouldn't want one that's had her nose up against it.
The lady just smiled and moved around to pack her bags. The smell went with her. Still the assistant grumbled on, saying she was very sensitive to unpleasant smells and might start gagging any minute.
Once the customer paid and left, the nasty whiff also departed. Only then did the assistant seem to link the two things, and looked rather embarrassed. Maybe she'll think twice before making similar comments in future.

All I can say is good help is hard to find. I certainly would hold my breath but wouldn't say anything
