When Does Old Age Start?

According to a poll, old age begins at 68, rather than the previous 60 year mark. That's great for me! In the old way of thinking, I would be old age in a few years, now I have about 10 years. So I will hang on to my middle-age status as long as I can! When do you think old age begins?

WASHINGTON - Americans think old age begins at 68, unless they have already reached that landmark, a poll showed Tuesday.

The best thing is not to tell your age to some people because they look at you with in a different way after that. I often refer to someone as 'elderly' and then realise with a jolt that they are younger than I am...

Well this guy is not old at 93. So I guess I might say 100 is old.
A 93-year-old Chinese man is putting millions around the globe to shame by staying in shape and in excellent health. Dubbed ‘muscular grandpa’, he hits the gym on a daily basis and has even become something of a local celebrity.

Old age starts when you feel that your body is suffering from serious wear and tear. When I was young 60 seemed ancient but I passed that a while ago and still feel quite youthful

Too right Janet! there was a time I thought 30 was getting on a bit. Wear and tear is a give away but we can keep young at heart even if the body eventually grows old.

@41CombedaleRoad I remember when I thought 30 was old! As a teen, I used to wear a T-shirt that said, "Never trust anyone over 30"!

Our physical age can be younger or older than the number of years we have lived. It depends of the telomeres in our DNA - the longer they are, the younger our DNA.
HOME Chromosomes and Inheritance Are Telomeres The Key To Aging And Cancer? Inside the nucleus of a cell, our genes are arranged along twisted, double-stranded molecules of DNA called chromosomes. At the ends of the chromosomes are stretches of DNA called

Old age is always in the mind. Once I would have thought about 70. Now, as I'm not too far from that age, it is about 90. People can reamin very active and alert rght through their 80s.

When I was a kid I used to think 40 is old already. When I was in my 20s, I used to think old means 50+. So I think I'll keep thinking old is 10 or 20 years older than I am.

Oh my! I was just reading the response @jaboUK left you @Pattitude ! I have a funny story for you both... Several years ago my daughter and I were shopping in the local Walmart. We were having trouble locating something, so I stopped an elderly man wearing the associate's outfit and ask him where it was located. After he told us the location, he called me by name and ask how I was doing. I just stood and looked at him, trying to figure out who he was... He grinned and introduced himself to me... He was one of my classmates in High School! (Granted, I was actually older than him by about nine months, but this guy had pure white hair, walked kinda bent over and shuffled his feet!) After we walked away from him, my daughter ask how I knew him... I explained. Then she almost shouted, "But DAD! HE is OLD! Did he flunk a lot of classes or what?" That was between fifteen or twenty years ago... I still have very little white in my hair, although that circular spot on my chin DOES grow in pure white... Doesn't it Janet? LOL! (Sorry, Patti, I grew a goatee last year during November. I only shared the picture with a very few people. Janet was one of the ones who was emailed a copy of it.)

@Pattitude and @DaddyEvil My husband, who'll be 85 next month, looks pretty old now, and whenever we meet anyone he hasn't seen for a while, he often says ''Wow, hasn't he aged?'' I think (but don't say) 'he is probably saying the same about you'!

Old age is in one's mind, in one's bones and in one's muscles. If they fail then old age makes its presence felt
